need a good shop in albuq. area?
need a good shop in albuq. area?
well i have taken my new 7 to one shop here in town called RPM on 2nd. they fixed some prety major things after buying my new car. he said everything was just way off in a tuning way. they fixed my idle problem sorta. my car still stalls out sometimes. anyway does anyone know of a really good shop in albuquerque? i know not to go to made in japan. frisbees, speedlab, and strictly performance are the only ones i know off. there is a guy at frisbees that knows 7s but i dont if works on them. if anyone knows it would be great. my main concern is that when i pixed up my car from RPM automotive, the owner asked if i put synthetic in it, and i said yes. he went on to say you cant put synthetic in a rotory, it'll damage the engine. he said it was smokling and that if you didnt change the oil right away it would keep smoking and would never pass emissions. yet when i drove it away it didnt smoke one bit. i tried to tell him that you can put synthetic in but it has to be good, but he said no. no way, and if you dont replace that oil it'll keep smoking and there will be nothing you can do about and you'll have to replace the negine. i didnt want ot argue so i paid for it and left. thats just a little something i was worried about. but anywawy are there any really good 7 shops in albuq?
I just bought an 88 TII Anniversary factory. Looking around for a shop or mechanic in ABQ. Have some leads. Will follow up with you on what I find.
BTW - everything that I've read online, which is alot, says do NOT run synthetic oil in a rotary. It'll damage the engine. Only run dino oil (non-synthetic).

New Rotary Guy in ABQ, NM
Guys - went to University Mazda tonight to pick up some parts I'd ordered. Asked if they had a mechanic at their shop that knew old RX-7s. They said NO, but said there was a 'new guy in town'.
RotaryRX
136 Mountain Park Place North
Albuquerque, NM 87114
New listing - so call information for Ph#.
I guess the guy spent 3 yrs with Steve Pruitt, the Premier Motors guy, so he had a great trainer. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what's up with this guy. I'll let you know the outcome.

RotaryRX is the ONLY place in my opinion to take your 7. The mechanic, Tom, is friendly and very knowledgable in the field of rotary cars. He does everything from rebuilds and ports to just an annual checkup and everything in between. He has done all the work on my third gen, and my brother's first with only great results.
RotaryRX has been around for a few months now. I stumbled upon this place before it opened and was estatic that Albuquerque and the surrounding areas finally had a place to take their rotary powered machines.
Just for future reference the number for RotaryRX is : (505) 922-1115

The parts guys at University Mazda say when Christine (name?) from RotaryRX comes in for parts it makes their day. Glad someone has used Tom's expertise and can vouch for his work and manner. We definitely needed someone in ABQ.
Update on previous post: The manager at Pep Boys tried to get a hold of his RX-7 mechanic buddy, but his ex said he'd moved to Denver. Poor us!

Did you get a diagnosis from RotaryRX (Tom) on your 7?
well, dropped the car off today. the guy is really nice. there was a tri point wide body there and 2 very nice 3rd gens. he said he'll do the compresion check and give me a guy.... also its a very nice and clean shop. very imprressed.
I'm so glad that there's finally a rotary tech here in NM. Tom is a very nice guy. I have no complaints and have always been satisfied with his work. I strongly recommend to anyone here in NM to take your 7 to him. If anyone ever stops by there anytime soon, my FC is the red one with the TII hood with CF hood scoop. I'm still gettin my engine rebuilt with some extra work here and there. It's gonna be sweet! All the parts are now in as of yesterday and we are set!
I will vouch whole heartedly for Tom and Rotary RX! He's a great guy, very knowledgable, and trustworthy. He is one of two people I will ever let touch my car around here. He's been driving and working on Rotaries longer than I've been driving period! I don't really know what else to say but... go down and check it out yourself!
