Trying to get to Steve Kan Tuning Nov 29-30. Need help with Power FC and more

The time has come to leak some info about my upcoming setup. I'm reaching out to my fellow midwesterners as this forum has less flaming and misinformation than many other areas of RX7Club. I am 100% self taught via the internet when it comes to my car and motor. I don't know much beyond the basics of tuning, and the Power FC is about to be my first aftermarket EMS. First, some info on the upcoming setup:

Early S4 TII motor in an S4 vert, 100psi on each rotor

No emissions or MOP, Premixing 100:1
Garret TO4E, .60 cold/ .84hot
HKS manifold, HKS external wastegate with 1bar spring
3" Turboback exhaust, straight pipe w/ dual exit mufflers
Greddy EBC and TT
Blitz BOV
More than enough intercooling
880 primaries
1000 secondaries
Walbro Fuel Pump
Apex'i Power FC
Banzai S4 Power FC adapter
Hoping for around a 400hp car at 16-18psi (more would be okay)

Everything is coming close to being assembled, and I have three main questions for now:

1) Anybody see something on the list that doesn't jive with the direction I want to take this setup?

2) Anybody know of a place/ person who could program a base map for the strange injector combo I'm running? I would like the car to start and idle before taking it to Steve, unless this isn't necessary...

3) What am I missing, and what level of preparedness does the car need to reach before Steve would/ could tune it? Do I need a datalogit by then? I'm having a wideband bung installed in the exhaust, but do I need a wideband a/f gauge or EGT gauge by tuning time? Pics and a detailed build thread will come, but for now I need some help to move ahead.

It can feel real good to help another person. Sometimes it's even worth money, beer, or other things. With all this in mind, please help and LET THE TURBO SWAP COMMENCE!!

Have you checked the Power FC forum? They might have a map close to what you need. Something that will atleast get you fired up and running. If you brought your car in not running condition, you wouldn't be the first

Did you plan on trailering it down?

No EGT or Wide band is needed. Steve has all that there, a bung is all you need.

In order to load a map, you'll need a datalogit. Or, it will be a big pain in the ***. I've done it with the commander but it took all night long. If you've never tuned, I'd just bring the car down and have Steve start from scratch or you'll stress yourself out or break your motor. Don't ask me how many peope have blown their motors one month or even weeks before the tune.

Trailer or a car dolly. Does the tune cost more if there is no base map loaded? Also, my car started making an odd noise from the drivetrain before I tore it apart. It could have been the trans, the dif, the front dif mount, or my imagination. I have a pinion snubber I am going to install. Am I likely to be okay for a dyno tune, or is it imperative that I iron out this wrinkle before strapping the car down on the rollers? I just don't want to send a deposit if I am going to be unprepared on that day, but I really think I can be ready.

Nope, it costs the same. Just make sure you've got no fuel leaks and plenty of spark

The drivetrain noises, I wouldn't worry about it. He'll be doing the tuning on the dyno so you won't wreck

All good news so far. Sounds like I may be sending deposit soon after all. The curse of this project has been that every time I thing I have everything purchased, I think of another $150 worth of parts I need. I believe a battery and a datalogit are all I need, then it's all labor. I keep wanting to send the damn deposit check so this tuning session doesn't flop. As for plenty of spark, do I need to upgrade my coils or ignition system in any way for my power goals? I planned to modify the trailing coil pack per Banzai's instructions, and use the oem system. (I suppose this is where someone offers me a used ignition upgrade for $150 bux

I think it just depends on who you buy it from. I paid $1,600 for my power fc back in 2000. SR Motorsports raped me, but it came with a base map. Kinda.

The PFCs do come with base maps, for slightly modded FD's, not single turbo S4 FCs. We provide start up maps with the installation kits but you do need access to a datalogit to load the map.

Another question I haven't found the answer to:

What size hole should I drill into my oil feed flange? I have seen a lot of conflicting info about T4 non-BB oil feed line sizing. I am running -4 AN from the front iron to the turbo. I purchased an undrilled flange from atpturbo with just a pilot hole. I keep reading an that an unrestirced flow with -4 AN could blow out some oil seals. I have been searching for this answer quite a bit, but haven't found any definitive information.

I'm not sure. Just make a thread in the single turbo forum. They won't bite and you'll get the right answer quick

Yeah, the guys in Single Turbo are awesome, just watch out for 3rd Gen/2nd Gen Spec, they are nasty in there.

Hence the low post count. I have spent several years and many hours lurking in the 2nd gen forum, but never enjoyed posting much due to the risk of getting involved in the shenanigans. Until I finish this build to "up my street cred", I try to keep my opinions and advice to myself. After all, what if somebody called me a newb? I could end up not sleeping for days until I'm driven into a depressing downward spiral, possibly leading to my suicide before I even get to experience the T4? Oh hell no, I ain't goin out like that Now it's back to the garage, with a fresh brew in hand. Pics coming very soon.
