I am in the metro - Do you want to buy a light weight flywheel for your engine('83-85) if you buy the car? Let me know. It makes the car more peppy feeling without actually adding any horsepower mods. I will take $230 for it.

Sorry for the hi-jack. Were are you looking to buy the car?

I am headed to Mexico this afternoon, back on Wednsday. Main thing to look for - if there is oil stuck all over the engine - means the rubber-o-rings are bad. The engine should be relatively clean. If it has oil everywhere that is wet - that is a big don't buy it sign. If you decide to test drive and start it - see if it makes a large oil cloud at start up and between shifts it puffs smoke looking back on the rear view mirror, another no-no on buying. The engine should run pretty smooth idling. Those are the main things - rust under the door or rear quarter are only going to get worse if it has it also.

Let me know if you have more questions.

the engine was pretty clean, and the blue cloud at start up was very small and didnt last long at all. ( 1 second if that)
i didnt look for smoke between shifts

Tim Huttner of Huttner Enterprises, Dayton, MN, which is just NE of where you are by about 20 minutes drive (city driving). Phone number is 763-427-9821. He is a certified carsoup vehicle inspector, expert witness for vehicle failure mechanisms (FMLA), does very high end race engines from airplanes to street rods, and "normal" or routine maintenance as well.

For a full vehicle inspection and certification prior to purchase, my recommendation is to give him a call but you'll need to bring the car to his shop - no house calls

Sounds like a relatively good RX-7 from that year from what you tested. I don't think an extreme "look over" is needed unless you have a bad feeling about it. Unless you are trying to buy a Ferrari, or some car thats worth more then $5000 without a second thought, you should consider any fixes minor other then the engine/drivetrain.

so, are there any rotary performance shops in MN??? I live in ND, and I already know there aren't any in my state, but I wouldn't mind the drive if they know what they are doing.

No - no rotary performance shops - you need to fend to yourself. But their are some indivuals that "semi-know" in the Twin Cities if you find them. I would recommend a guy Greg - but he does too much rotary stuff for others already!

Yes, call Tim - he built two high HP 20B's and works on all types of engines, not just rotaries... so if you're asking is there any rotary-specific shops in MN, no there is not. Are there shops that will work on them and do know what they are doing, yes there are.

there used to be a guy named anton roggemann in roseville who owned RX7 heaven on county road c, I dont know his reputation but thats all he owned/ worked on was rx7s. He had at least 10 fb/fc's parked in his lot at a time. He ended up moving his shop to his home. last time i checked his number was 651 753 7510, but that was a year or so ago.

RX-7 "heaven" from others accounts - were good at FB's and series 4 FC's - NA only. I can tell you from personal experience that they are completely incompetant when it comes to turbo-charged versions AND he was not honest when it came to parts - again from my personal experience; others have had good experiences.

Here's something else to contemplate... why are they out of business?

My guy Chris based out of st paul region does a lot of work on RX7's. Turbo and NA. Rotary engines are his specialty. He's willing to take on all types of rx7 work whether you need an engine installed or bnr turbo or just need to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about. If interested pm me and I'll give you his contact info or PM: Rocking Rotary and he'll get back to you. I know for a fact right now he has an 88 TII he's working on for me and he personally owns a 93 TT RX7 Touring edition. He really knows his stuff.
Best Regards
