Went out to the AutoX in Des Moines over the weekend. Fun time. Managed to get 6 runs in, and was sad because I had to go before the end, and they were conducting fun runs. Overall, a very competently and smoothly run events, one of the best AutoX outings I've ever been to.
Took the MAccord, since the 7 is still under construction, but it was a great time. A couple of rx8's, and the black rx7 that used to run around IC. Unfortunately, he ended up busting a coolant line (or radiator end cover) and spilling some antifreeze at the starting point. The AutoX scene definitely needs more rotary representation, in no small part due to the fact that the fastest car of the day was a stupid-fast fox-body mustang.

Thinking about it pretty hard. Also thinking about different body kits but not very many of them are completely the look I want. I do still plan on shaving the rear bumper aka "roll pan". Ive seen pics of this and its some good stuff in my opinion. It needs repainted anyways so I figure I might as well do it while Im doing it so to speak.
Cody do you have access to a cam gear wrench for a subaru? They are a bastard to get off and I'm trying to find one of these wrenches so I don't have to torch then off again lol.
New clutch going in this weekend got my base map from benchmark tuning in chicago and my car is running very strong.
Got to put new pistons in my 2.5 and find a spare set of 2.0 heads then my hybrid 2.5 motor will be dropped in. I'm getting excited.
Anyone want to help put some pistons in my short block?

I've always just used either an air wrench or impact gun to remove those bolts, but from what I see the Subaru ones are plastic? That may break them. The only other thing I can guess would be to leave the timing belt on with all the guides then hold the crank bolt with something like a wrench and breaker bar and then use a ratchet or wrench with a long piece of pipe slipped over it. This way you'll get a gradual loosening force and you'll be able to put your weight behind it.
Blade it will be a 2.5 shortblock with 2.0 heads that way I don't have to wire in the avcs that the sti's and 06-07 wrx's have. This way there is no swapping of wiring harnesses or anything only thing different is 2.5 shortblock.

^^
It looks like that it goes inside the cam gear for some reason the subaru cam gear bolts are a pita to get off. I had to torch off the ones off my 2.5.
There isn't really a good way to hold the cam gears other than the specialty tool if you try a big channel lock the cam gears will break before the bolt breaks loose.

I see what you mean now. Yea, from the sounds of it they're easy to break off, especially considering the bolt has a torque of like 75 ft. lbs. I was just thinking maybe if you had the timing belt on and everything still hooked up you could hold the crank with something and then try and take the bolts out of the cam gears, but I'm not sure how well this would really work. Have you tried to get ahold of any of the Subaru dealerships and see if they may lend it to you for a day or something? I know if you give them your info and such they will usually do that if they have the tool.
My ******* clutch didn't come in today so now my car is on jack stands til maybe tomorrow or possibly even monday
This is becoming a pretty big project I wish I had another daily car and a garage so I could spend more quality time doing everything..
I gave up lol... I'm buying a new set of heads and getting them ported. I can sell my long block for the cost of the heads and the porting so I figure what the hell.

What does insurance run you a month on that thing for full coverage?
I think it's like 90-100 or so. They are very nice cars it handles great, it's comfortable, and it's relatively easy to work on. Parts are super cheap compared to just about any other foreign car.
The new pistons go in next week. I'm hoping to be able to get my heads in a week or so also then all I have to get is a gasket kit and she should be ready to go pretty soon.

Btw the fastest time by that fox body should be no surprise since he built that car for autox and runs that baby at nationals....the driver has been autoxing for 15 years now if I remember correctly too.
so as much as it may suck im probly not going to be getting a rx7 soon... My car that I fixed... went back to together with more problems than when it started... So im back to square 1 and about $800 poorer.. and I cant sell my civic cause i need to keep driving it... But someday... I will have one... If only in my dreams
Went to the dyno today and I was a little disappointed with my run but it's ok I have plenty of room to improve power.
257awhp- a/f's 9.8
It was running way to rich so I need a re-tune but will most likely just wait til I get my new motor in.
