Hey man, I'm more or less from Alpena! Rule number one, don't take a rotary to a mechanic. They will be lost, and will start replacing parts until it runs right or you run out of money.

If you have some tools, and can follow written directions, then your best bet is to get your car back and post questions in the 1st gen technical section. We will walk you through the troubleshooting and repairs.

Sorry, but I don't know anyone up there who knows rotaries. Now, if you could get the car down here......

thanks, nice to find someone actually from the area. As soon as i get it out again, hopefully within the next few days i will start posting and it is possible that i could bring the car to grand rapids. should i post in the first gen section, even though my car is a second gen?

Oh, sorry about that. Yeah, if your car is a 2nd gen then you should post there.

Feel free to give me some details on what exactly your car is doing and I'll try to point you in the right direction if I can.

alright i ended up not getting my car back but the mechanic did let me drive it for a weekend. when i drove it the only difference i could feel was that i had more power. he told me he has been talking to a mazda specialist, along with one of his mechanics that worked on rotary engines for a long time at a mazda dealer.

so far he has
replaced the fuel regulator
cleaned valves that he was unaware of underneath the engine
cleaned out the whole throttle body
is there any very obvious thing that has been overlooked?

my idle still bounces when started and if the weather is damp after it has been warmed up. when i downshift my through all the gears to get from fifth to first my idle often drops really low after i put it in neutral at a stop. low enough for the car to shudder and almost shake. i'm still thinking that my fuel injectors need to be replaced but i'm not a mechanic. let me know if you happen to think of anything.

check that the throttle position sensor is tuned in right. search the forum and you will find the method.

check any vacuum hoses and make sure they are all connected right.

search the 2nd gen section for bouncing idle and you will find hundreds of threads and hundreds of reasons why it does it.

GET YOU CAR BACK NOW!!!!!! None of those things he did tend to cause the bouncy idle. HE IS SPENDING YOUR MONEY ON THINGS THAT WONT FIX YOUR PROBLEM. GET YOUR CAR BACK AND WE WILL HELP YOU!!!!!!!

I wish you were located closer. I don't get up to the Alpena area much anymore...
