Ok, I looked in the appropriate thread for regional/local shops and don't see any listed in Eastern Kansas. Does anyone have a suggestion? I just want to get my son's 94 RX7 checked over before I sell it.

Spoke with them a few weeks ago. They really don't work on FDs. Mostly carbed FB engines.

I'd like to know as well. I'm currently in Lawrence, but anyone that could do (good) work on an FD within 50 miles of me would be a godsend. My 5th gear synchro has seen better days.

Fortuanately there isn't anything particularly exotic about the FD 5 speed. Not sure how inclined you are, but I managed to fix my 5th gear synchro myself with help from another forum member. There are quite a few how-to threads too. If you think it's more than you'd want to tackle, any reputable shop familiar with manual transmissions should be able to do it for you. In any event, good luck with it.

Does he have experience with FDs? I'd be very interested, but I'd need someone who knows the long-block stuff, sequential system etc.

Yeah that's more what I'm looking for. Kind of a backup plan when something stumps me. Like the stalling problem I can't seem to figure out.

I've seen the write-ups on the 5th gear synchro fix and they're done so well they almost trick me into thinking I could do it myself. I guess that's what summer is for.

Exactly. It sort of sucks here in the midwest for an FD knowledgable shop. I envy the Florida/North Texas/California owners. After doing some searching and making some calls, the closest shop I could find to me (Omaha area) was A-Spec Tuning in Chicago.

Like I said, I had a very talented forum member help me with mine ("poss"), but it really was fairly straight-forward....any shop familiar with manual transmissions should be able to do it, especially if you printed off the appropriate pages of the FSM or those "how-to" threads for them. The biggest (but not technically difficult) job was removing and replacing the transmission. If you did that, you'd likely save yourself ALOT of the labor charges.
