switching from 13bt (s5) to 13b-rew

Wondering if there is going to be problems with the crank sensor being different and some of the sensors (as far as calibration)

I know microtech is hardcoded for certain things so i may not be able to change some settings

Anyone know? or should i start reading? :P

The configuration is different so you have to send your computer to get it reburn for a series 6.The ignition system is different unless your changing the front cover to turbo 2, and using cas and coils from a s5.

The CAS signal waveform is exactly the same between the s5 and s6 engines despite the different sensor designs. The FD crank angle sensor has 12 teeth for generating engine speed signal and 1 home/TDC tooth. The FC crank angle sensor has 24 teeth for generating engine speed signal and 2 home/TDC teeth. However, since it is installed like a distributor it spins at half the speed of the crank. Thus the waveform is the same.

The ignition system is different, mostly on the trailing side. The FD has a separate igniter for the front and rear trailing while the FC has one igniter that is basically "distributed" to the front or rear rotor using a square wave (on or off, 0 or 5v) toggle signal.

So can a microtech programmed for a FC be used on a FD?

you'll be fine assuming you use your ignition setup you have now. just have to rewire the cas wires for the new pickups.

Always heard ppl saying that it couldnt work and will never work without sending back the ECU to Microtech to be reprogrammed. Has anybody actually ever done it before? And how do you know for sure what generation what ecu is programmed or intended for?

I have run a microtech mtx8 configured for a series 6, on a series 4 motor with no problems. Using 4 bosch HEC coils and stock CAS. Basically the opposite of what you're asking.

the only physical thing your changing is the location of the crank sensors. on a fc they both are in the cas and on the fd, they are both mounted to the front cover. both styles output the same signal to the ecu. it doesnt know any diff. nothing else xhanges as long as your using the same coil setup from before.
