Straight from the horse's mouth

I've been on a quest lately to find more info about the microtech LT8, that being the newest EMS available. There is a dearth of hard information available on the web. Until now. RX Engineering responded to all of my questions - keep tuned in for a potential group buy of LT8s - I'm waiting for approval to advertise it, but can't email Jason since his mailbox is full

Anyway, here follows the text of the email:

---------
Code:
Ok Brandon I'll see how I go here.
The LT series of ECU's is switchable from 2D to 3D.It has rpm adjustment
from 500 to 9000 rpm in 500 rpm increments.
You have a load setting every 5" of vacuum & every 2 psi boost.
Adjustments are made in .06m/s increments
Adjustments are made right through to 12.5m/s
If you exceed 9000rpm the fuel will stay at the m/s value for 9000rpm.This
isn't a problem as the fuel requrements above 9000 do stay around the same.I
rev mine to 11000rpm & don't have any problem. However a custom unit can be
made with mapping up to 11000rpm if you need it by removing the 500 & 1000
rpm sites & adding more at the top end.
Timing is adjusted in 1deg increments every 500 rpm & has boost
retard/vacuum advance adjustment every 5" of vacuum & 2psi boost.
Leading & trailling split is adjustable in 1 deg increments every 500 rpm
from 20deg down to zero & dwell is also adjustable.Timing will stay flat
after 9000rpm.
Fuel enrichment functions are water temp & air temp adjustable from -25 deg
C to 120 deg C in 8 deg increments.
Cranking enrichment is also there with the same parameters.
ignition is adjustable with water & air correction at the same parameters in
1 deg increments.
The ecu's don't run in closed loop
The LT's have 2 outputs.one is Pulse width adjustable for either idle
motors, boost control or launch control etc & one which is just an on off
switching by temp, rpm or vacuum for things like thermo fan control, water
sprays,NOS activation etc.
There is an accelerator pump setting in the ecu which is adjustable.
The unit has a rev limiter which cuts the primary bank of injectors(not
suitable for 13b turbo's with staged injection)as well as a rev cut which
cuts fuel out all together.
The LT's have full data logging & playback facilities & all programming is
windows based & very easy to follow & understand.
They are programmable either by laptop or by the hand controller.
Hope this answers most of your questions.I'm sure you have plenty more but
don't be afraid to ask.
In the meantime i'll see if i can get you some screen shots of the software
to check out.
I'm planning a trip to the US later in the year to tune & set up some cars
that I've already sold units to.I'd be more than willing to give you all the
help & support you need to get your cars Hauling *** with the units!!!!!!!
Talk to you soon

Ponder that for a bit - when I get the time, I'll parse it into my previously-posted spreadsheet format with a few small additions...

Awsome!

That helps out alot. It's nice to know there is some more support for the system out there. Here in Canada no one seems to use it, I think I might kind of be the first, at least that I know off. Be sure to keep us all posted on any new info you hear, and about the possible group buy.

Cheers
Graham

That resolution is a bit disappointing by today's standards. I guess Microtech decided not to compete with the other $1,500 EMS products, and instead decided to offer a cheaper solution. What is the retail price on a LT8?

On other issues, the hand controller is a very nice tuning tool that seems to be beyond the comprehension of some of the other EMS manufacturers. I don't know anybody with a standalone EMS who uses the closed loop mode, so that's not a big deal.

Can someone give me his email address (if he wouldn't mind) so that I can contact him about Mircotech model specs and other info?
You can PM it to me if you don't want to post it.
Thanks

As far as i can tell the MT's are .06 and the LT's are .04, im going to microtech tomorrow to pick up a brand new ECU for a subaru, ill ask Dom while im there.

the reatail on the LT8 is $1095au complete with loom ecu,

microtech always used the hand controllers to programe there ecus the windows software is a recient addition, the handset is so handy to have for making small changes and data logs etc,
the dash is also great, basically like a big handset with easy to read numbers!!

Jon is a top bloke, very good tuner and always has the time to talk to people!! not like most people in the game!!

between him and myself we will try and help as much as possible!

Dale

OK, that would be about $650 USD, which would be a good deal assuming that the importers and dealers don't add a significant amount to that price for US consumers. The Haltech E11 and Wolf3DV4 have .004ms injector resolution, as well as much better mapping resolution, but they sell for twice that price in the US. The old Wolf3DV3 had similar resolution to the MT's, and while a bit coarse, it still worked fine on a lot of applications. I think Microtech will do well with the budget-minded drag racers.

Thank you for checking on the statistics.

The dealers in the US are not suppling the same unit as your market require different specs, they are being supplied with 3 bar map, std/ air and wat sensors, laptop adaptors and software. So add another $550 to compare apples with apples. You then need to freight the product, advertise it, pay your import taxes and then support it. So a price close to double what you just mentioned is more realistic. Just as is the case for all the other units when you compare Aus vs US $. A Haltec is only worth the same Aus $ but you buy one for $650US. If these costs are not met, there is no way any support for the product will ever be present in the USA.
As for budget minded Racers, you cannot go past Microtech, for that matter, any one serious about racing a Rotor needs to atleast consider it regardless of its price tag. You cannot argue with the results.
