Runtime error "13": Type Mismatch.

Anyone got this error message before? Runtime error "13": Type Mismatch.
The laptop program closes itself after i close the error window.

I get this when trying to connect the laptop. When pressing the connect to comport 1 button this message comes up.

This is with the new lt8s unit. And i'm using the proper laptop adapter.

I have tried two diffrent laptops, two diffrent lt units and two diffrent program versions.

The units are brand new, and I have gotten this error from day one.

Any ideas?

Have you tried switching to com 2 if you're on 1 or vice versa? I received that message when I first hooked up the laptop, switched to com 2 and problem solved.

I just tried to switch to com port 2, but it didn't solve the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Well I just want to make sure but did you make sure you set the adaptor to either com port 1 or 2. I know for a fact Windows XP has it set for com 4. What OS are you running?

Don't hate a comapny because of one bad service. You need to talk to the source and not a bonehead who just sits behind a counter and thinks he knows his ****.
E-mail Tim in Australia....... tim@microtechefi.com
I spoke with a guy in Florida who is supposedly a Microtech dealer but I don't think he knows what he was talking about as he just gave me some bullshit excuse.
It seems people are having problem operating it with XP. I use 98 on my laptop.

I'm currently using xp, but I will try to switch to win98 today.

Tim at microtech had never seen this error before, but he is checking with his computer engineer. He had no problem with xp himself.

Nice forum by the way!

yeah if you're running XP make sure you setup your USB adaptor to use com 1 or com 2. Maybe your system isn't connecting and in turn the Microtech system is crashing. I don't know. I'd check that first if you haven't done so.

I'm not using a usb adapter. There is a com port on my laptop. (not exactly a new laptop).

It was set to com1 as default. And now I hav also tried com2.

hmmm ok. well the only other suggestion I have would be to uninstall the program, reboot from safe mode, and reinstall... maybe there was a conflict with that program and another you had running. Maybe a virus protection program or something of the like.

Nice forum by the way!

You may want to wait and see what Tim says before uninstalling XP as it is a pain in the *** and time consuming switching windows.
Could it be a firewall??

what brand laptop do you guys have??

do you have the latest firmware and bios versions on it,

i run my software on win XP on a toshiba tecra s1 with no problems at all,

it sounds to me like the error is a hardware problem with the com port,

check to make sure there are no modems or anything like that installed on that com port etc,

Now I have tried with windows 2000 professional too. Same problem.
I have tried several laptops with xp on them without any results.

Before the microtech program close down when I close the error box, I can see all the values from the lt unit on the screen. It gets data from the lambda and the tps. So there is contact.

As I said as stupid as it may seem, uninstall the Microtech software, reboot in safemode, reinstall the software, and then make sure that if you have virus protection on your computer you disable the live scan of the Microtech folder/software would be in the virus software properties. Looking back at some of my notes from previous errors with a work computer I came to find out it was the virus software causing an error very similar to that.

I have tried two diffrent softwares. The 1.2, i got included with my lt unit. And the 1.1 beta, i got from the microtech website. (the same as you linked to).

In safemode, it is not possible to install any programs because of the windows installer, not being started.

I tried to install it in normal windows, and run it in safemode, but that is not possible either, because the port is not up and running in safe mode.

type mismatch usually is a software problem, not hardware....

Do you have virus protection or a real time scanner like that that may be causing a conflict?
