Ok first of all i have a microtech lt-8. my microtech turns on (green light) and i have the program on my laptop. i have my computer on com port one. but everytime i try and connect to my microtech it says "no connection to E.C.U" i have tryed a different laptop adaptor, d/l a new program off of microtech's website and nothing has changed. i am lost and close to calling microtech themselves. has anyone had this problem or have any ideas for me to try. thanks for any help!!!

 

Are the proper drivers installed that came with the serial adapter?

What do you mean when you say "different laptop adapter" Are you talking about the actual connection to the computer or the "Microtech Laptop adapter"

 

Are you sure the serial port on your laptop works? Try it with a mouse or modem. What kind of "different adapter" are you using? Is it USB or built in? Set to what COM port?

 

what i ment by different adaptor was i got one of my buddys adaptors to see if my adaptor was bad. i was going to try another laptop to see if my serial port works.

 

i have another question. what port is exactly com port 1? is it the serial port? is it a usb or can i make it whatever i want? i have tryed a new computer and still no connection. if the microtech has no map on it will i be able to connect?? i am lost on what to try next and i just wana drive this car. thanks for any help!!

I'm using a serial to USB adaptor & windows Xp,
My USB adaptor properties say the device is working properly.

I Tried reconfiguring Com 1 & Com 2 using T2romad's instructions,
quoted below from another thread.

but it didn't work for me.
It say's "Can Not Connect to ECU"
Not "Com 1 Not Available"

What should I try next?

 

Ok, my problem was the cheap *** serial cable I was trying to use..
I got a Decent quality Belkin Cable at comp usa & now I'm connected.

 

Same problem i had earlier.......i originally bought a 23 dollar 9-pin to USB cable, that didnt work, so i bought a 90 dollar PCMCIA to 9-pin adapter.....works like a charm.

 

so your saying i should try and buy a decent cable and go from their...??? also is "com port 1" a serial or usb? thanks

 

Yeah, a good quality cord was all I needed.
I was getting the same "No Connection to ECU" message.


I think com 1 or com 2 can be either serial or USB,
"Com 1" or 2, is more of a device setting than a physical location or connection on the computer..
For example I have 3 USB ports on my laptop,.. any one of them will turn into "Com 1" as soon as I plug a usb cord in, It dosn't matter which one.


When you open the device manager to assign Com 1 or 2, You must have your USB or Serial Cable Plugged into the computer, Or Com 1 or 2 will will not appear on the list of available COM ports in the device manager dropdown menu.

COM ports are always serial.

A USB to serial adapter adds another COM port to the machine. Generally you can set the number of this port to whatever you like, though the Microtech software only recognizes COM1 and COM2.

Don't bother with USB serial adapters. In my experience, they are too random with which software they work with. Get a PCMCIA adapter. More expensive, but always works.

My serial to USB adaptor worked fine for a couple of days,..
and then just stopped working.

So I ordered a PCMCIA to serial adaptor.

 

the PCMIA cably thingy worked and am now connected to my microtech ecu!!! but now i got no spark and no crank angle signal. but at least i got one step down, thanks everyone for your help!!
