Anyone know what needs to be done to get the Microtech LTX-12S and MSD Blaster SS Coils to work properly with a stock tach? I have a 20B and with the above setup, the tach reads double what it should (i.e. 2,000 RPMs versus the 1,000 it should be). Do I need a tach adapter device like the Dakota Digital tach adapter or is is something else?

My Wolf EMS needed the adapter, my Haltech didn't. Does the Microtech require such a device? I think the problem is the SS coils send two pulses compared the stockers but what fixes the problem?

 

You need to connect the tach wire from the microtech to the tach wire in your car, not the coils.

Yes, you are correct but also not. The Microtech is connected directly to the tach, not the coils. The reading though to the tach is incorrect and reads much higher than the actual RPMs of the car.

Microtech says the Digital Dakota is required and we have it in and are in the process of installing it. Should fix the problem.

 

In your cylinder configuration is it set to 6?

I have done heaps of ecus and never had to use any device to convert tacho signal unless the computer was configured for a different engine.....

 

Yes, Jesus Padilla is doing the work on the car and he's a Microtech guy so he knows what he is doing. Regarding the tach signal, the Wolf 4D EMS also requires a converter to work with the 3 rotor.

 

Im sorry but i have done plenty of installs on 20bs. Never had to use a converter WHAT SO ever. I dont really follow names and reputations blah blah so jesus padilla dosnt mean much to me.

only time ive seen a tacho out with the config_cyl on 04 and not 6.

I probably should have mentioned the car is running great. Don't think this would be possible if the settings for the number of cylinders was incorrect.

Ive had a few microtechs on 13bts that were running perfectly and i find out they are set on 1 cyl. Switch them to 4. no difference.

 

Yes! you need the Dakota Digital tach adapter box, to get the tach reading the correct rpm

 

Thank you! The voice of reason My Dakota Digital was installed last week and it fixed the problem. 20B RPMs now read correctly.
