Microtech LT8 Review.. yes my car runs
Basically I knew I needed a new ECU to control my car.. the stock one just wasn't going to cut it with my mods:
13BT w/ Street Port & 3mm Apex seals (bare block)
Microtech LT8 EMS
Microtech hand controller
GReddy Turbo Timer
GReddy 720cc inj. (4)
Greddy EGT p/h/w
GReddy boost p/h/w
GReddy Type S BOV
GReddy Shift ****
GReddy Profec B
TID & TB mod
Autometer gauge holder
HKS Intake
Apex'i GT Spec exhaust
Racing Mazda 3" DP/MP
MazdaSpeed Engine mounts
Koyo Radiator BNR Stage 3 Turbo upg.
GAB 4way adj. Struts
Walbro Fuel pump
I posted a simple questions.. where can I get a microtech at. The unit seemed like it would do just fine for what I wanted my car to do. Dale answered my question and I immediatly sent him an Email... 3 hours later my Microtech was paid for LT8, Hand controller, and Laptop software. Dale is an excellent person to deal with. Very fast question answering and last night I was talking to him on my notebook while finishing up my wiring which he helped me trouble shoot my problem (stupid my own fault kinda thing) . A week after placing the order Dale got my LT8 from microtech.
I even got pictures of it

Ready to be packaged and sent to me. I believe he sent it to me on Monday and I had it in my hands Saturday.
Some may have already seen these pics I posted them in another thread.

Saturday night I started to take my car apart. What happy days when I removed my AFM & boost sensor. My car has just not been the same since my swap. Running a S-afc to control my 4 720's it just wasn't cutting it. Something in my wiring didnt' seem to be working right. So why play hunt down the messed up wires when you can just replace them with new setup My S-afc was sold damn quick and I sent it off today woo
I ran my wires basically the same way as the factory harness is ran. It's very simple the Microtech wiring harness is very well labeled and the wiring diagram for it is simple to. Just read it! I had two problems with mine. I didn't read it right so I never had a 12v ign source. Fixed that.. no spark.. looked at the wiring diagram and realized I wired my CAS wrong. Look at the color of the wires connected to the sensor not to the plug that is connected to the wiring harness.. damn dirty bastards changed colors. Turned the key and wow.. It runs... not only does it run but it idles good... not only does it idle good but its super smooth. I thought it was running decent with the old wiring in it and I was so wrong. The car is super smooth through the RPM band its more responsive. It's like a whole different car all together. Yes I was a happy person since I got to drive my TII again. the install wouldn't have taken more than a few hours if I would have buckled down. I did the TB mod and converted to bare block. I started late saturday night so I basically took it apart and sunday the parts I needed well the store wasn't open so I really didn't do much. Things you might want to have is a tool to repin the old plugs with or get new plugs and pin it that way... or the route I went.. lots of heat shrink.. solder, electrical solder, and flux. Easy as ever. I also bought some of that wire loom stuff so I wouldn't have stray wires all over my engine bay.

here are some pics from basically the very beginning of the install. I didn't take many while I was installing mostly because when you get yourself into the mindset you don't want to stop and take pictures..

I mounted my LT8 to the passenger kick panel for now. Basically I wanted to see it.. (has 3 LED's) maybe I don't need to buy oh well I have it their for now and I will relocate it probably to stock ECU location after i get the car tuned

My hand controller pics didn't turn out from tonight. I just have it kinda lodged between the shifter and the ashtray. It's in a decent spot where I can read it easily. I've scrolled through all the screens a little and it seems like you will want the laptop software for tuning. It should make things alot easier.
So.. yea i guess that's my install. If you're intimidated to remove your UIM I suggest to find a friend who will help you wire it It's really not that hard by any means. Just follow the wiring diagram and you'll have no problems. I just want to thank Dale for the constant email communication and then helping me out over ICQ.

poor video from tonight.. it was dark..you see dash lights.. and then in the end i just walk around the car in the garage.. 8mb nothing special.. i do hang the rear end out around a corner a little

Execlent work dude!!!
Really gives the people here some first hand exprience on what the install is like!! Not hard at all,
Now throw the thing on a dyno and get some figures!

Wednesday 9am my car is scheduled for dyno time
Just something I noticed today. I took the car to Sioux Falls (68 miles away) drove around town some... drove home.. used just a little less than half a tank of gas... I figure i drove close to 160+ miles.... That's better gas mileage then when I was running completely stock I'm pretty sure.

Also your ecu is still in normal mode, wait till you swap it into matrix mode and tune all the load points, the fuel economy will get better and better,
tune to load points in normal mode to start with then copy all the load points over using the copy function, then swap into matrix mode and tune all the load points, by doing it this way tuning time is much less, and with the press of a button you can have every load point between 1000rpm and 9000rpm the same,

Did you have to rewire any accessories such as wipers, cruise control, or any of the stock guages?
Also, is your vacum at idle any different now? What does it idle at?

I have no cruise control anymore.. so no i don't have to rewire that..
I will need to rewire the wipers.. I think i can just remove the wires and plugs and it'll work.. or i'll just straight rewire it.. one of the two...
and stock gauges.. boost and water temp don't work.. you could rewire them i'm sure. both can be monitored on the hand controller.
my idle is around 1500 but that's due to my idle not being adjusted right. it's solid at 1500 i need to adjust the idle but one thing at a time.

hmm I'm wondering
if you leave the stock computer pluged in with just the wiper section of the stock injector side harness intact
The wipers and A/C should work no?
either way it's no big deal rewiring the wipers and A/C

Idle is easy
When I had the E6k my car would not Idle for S
so Rolo (new microtech tuner/old Haltech one)
Set my Idle while I was in the staging lanes at a local 1/4 mile track here
I'll have to see how he sets my Idle with the Microtech
and I'll pass that info onto you guys

Idle adjustment is easy with the microtech.
Just wind the throttle stop up till the engine reaches the desired rpm, calibrate the tps to suit the new position (so the computer knows when it's at idle so it can activate the idle map) & adjust the fuel in the idle screen so the car is running at its best.

My car is getting tuned in Sioux Falls.. the guy that's doing the tuning has pretty much played with every system on the market.. 'cept of course microtech. I dropped off the program & the book for it yesturday. He said it shouldn't be a problem. So if all goes well their could be a microtech tuner in the midwest..
I just can't wait till wed when my car gets toon'd to long of a wait... Sunday night I'm tearing my car apart again... doing all fluid changes and sticking new plugs in it tuesday. Must be ready for dyno woo
I have a FD UIM coming now to and will probably be having a custom FMIC done up this summer...

forgot to add.
If i'm not happy with how the car is tuned I will be making a road trip to wherever I can find a good microtech tuner I don't care how far I have to drive
btw.. anyone have an idea of what kinda numbers I should put down with my mods?

yea if he knows how to tune other ems's and know how to use a wideband and such
learning to tune a M.T should not be difficult
the only thing he needs to learn is where the keys are
and learning key combos + strolling thru the menue
