VA Microtech Lt10s boosting weird HELP !

got a bridgeported s5 turbo 2 and when i boost up like just 2psi it feels like its struggeling to spool or hesitating . i`ve got a bnr stage 1 turbo .

anyone have any suggestions ? if i press the gas more then 60% it starts to break up . (lean out) i think is the term . i can only boost to about 3-4 before i have to give it more throttle then leans out . could this because i am not using a wideband ??

you havent given us your injector combo.. or any relevant data about how the ecu is setup..

how do you possibly expect a sensible answer?

im telling you now,,
take it to a shop... a shop will instantly recognise this is a staging issue to do with the injector combo and the ecu staging % setup...

but i already know im wasting my time , and thats not an insult,, just a frank appraisal of where you are now and where you need to be...


you are up for a MASSIVELY steep learning curve if you think your going to nut this out at home,, without prior experience
,, and without a wideband on a turbo BP rotary.. you are asking/ nay begging/ .. for trouble

looks like it's dumping fuel to me also.

i don't know what to say since Aaron already said that and the OP is still thinking it's lean and breaking up.

rich= erratic running, feels like ignition is cutting out because it is.
lean= bucking followed by the sound of silence as your car rolls to the curb.


what you seem to not understand at all is that the break up is caused by TOO MUCH FUEL!

then you need stage % somewhere in the guestimate of around 90% , and stage thresholds around 3000 rpm and 2 psi BEFORE you start to build the fuel map.. dont ask why.. read //

its all in the math for the staging algorithm .. you must have staging % nearly right to get it to transend to all injectors without a wet or dry glitch
you must do this FIRST before you build the map as the staging % factor is applied to all of the fuel look up table values when the engine is in the prestage condition

don not fail to grasp this last sentence and its implication to what happens to the values in the look up table under 3000 rpm and below 2 psi

,, the ecu sees the lack of one or both staging flags
[ engine > 3000 = no .... AND OR ......... boost >2 psi = no ]
so takes the value for 10"Hg ...( example only ) 1.375 and adds the staging % ( example only,, 90 %,, eg 550 / 1300 combo )

so 1.375 + 90% = 2.61 ms ,, and this is the REAL corrected value expressed on the screen , despite what is seen in the look up table

above the stage flag thresholds ( BOTH ) then the ecu disregards the staging % factor and reads the look up table directly

having the staging % factor blatantly wrong will always bugger the math at the stage point and give you the dry glitch or a wet spot and stage terribly
getting it right and it will stage seamlessly , without it being apparent all injectors have started to fire

moving the staging % factor up and down has implication to all mixtures below the staging thresholds ,, and so this is why you need to make a fair guess at it FIRST before you build the maps

lots of reading is required for you to get this all down pat .. its a steep curve if you dont have an instrument or PLC background already..

do your research and get look for hints in others maps for that staging % factor .. usually when the secs are nearly double the primary then the staging is in that 75 - 90 % region
ie, 550/1000 is nearly ideal at 77-90%.. ( difference between secondary and primary factor is + 90 % , but the reality of latency differences and age and different types of 550 injectors can push this down in the real world,, i find its closer at 78 % with old 550's )
550 /750 is closer to 65% .. ( factor is + 68% )
,,, your 1000/1760 combo is ( + 88% )

550/ 1600 is 99% ( factor is 100 + % ),,and will always stage horribly as the math runs out ...

doesn't look like the map has even started staging yet though, and 6.30sT is way too much fuel for that injection setup. the maps are pig rich, find someone to tune it for you.

at 429 - 433 it passes 4 psi and 3000 rpm and is yet to stage
( on the log ,, to me its apparent it has hit staging and fallen flat at that instant ,, and the log is too slow to catch that on the one frame )

the reason for this is the staging % math gets it wrong at the critical crossover,, and the engine falls back to prestage conditions


.. the staging flags are way to high , hence why im telling him to be sure they are set up
.. 3000 rpm and 2 psi are good flag points because he has 2000 cc worth of primary injector flow that should see this engine into boost without pushing extreme duty cycles
with larger injectors its a good move to lift the staging threshold to positive boost ( normally -5 inch Hg )
as this makes it easy to define the point on the look up table where the "real" numbers begin to take effect

oh i agree the staging is too late for a turbo spooling 4+psi by 3000 RPMs, but it still to me seems it is sputtering due to an overly rich condition. you don't want the injectors staging when the turbo is really trying to spool up hard.

RPM staging should be set around 2000-2500 RPMs and 0"Hg with the stg% around 85-90%

adjusted he staging like i was told from rotorevolution and seems to run much better , no more cutting out but im sure could use more fine tuning

it still has not staged.................every plot is recording the symbols sT.. this means it is in primary injector mode only

when it is in all four injectors that plot will record mS.. only once did you get up to 2 psi ( at 6500 rpm ) in the last sample and it has STILL yet to stage

tell us right now what the values are in your screen 30 options
... REvstg MUST be 3000 rpm and MAPstg must be 0 or 2 psi
( to make the maps much more obvious around the stage point )

and stage % must start around 80-90 % ..
( which will adjust all you prestage far to rich as is atm,, because it was set up last and not first )

go to screen 31 and make sure it has firing = sequential .. this will put the ecu in to sequential injector ( staging ) operation

that looks like a log from running in neutral with no load on it so that would explain why it isn't seeing enough load to stage in that log.

thanks for the help guys , got it to stop backfiring/ hesitating . finally got in contact with the guy that tunes microtech and gonna get a tune very soon

ok so i lied , it turns out it is still doing to cut out but doesnt hesitate really anymore . im thinkin my trailing coil pack is getting no spark and cant find out why .
