LT-8 timing lock on?

My timing lock is on and the timing is set for 5 degrees. Now the t_rpm map is set for:
7 degrees @ 1000rpm
20 degrees @ 1500rpm
25 degrees @ 2000rpm - 8000rpm

So I am guessing the tuner forgot to take the timing lock off, does this make sence? I just got the car hooked up to the laptop and noticed the timing never changed and thel ock was on.

Second question is if I take off the timing lock is the timing the tuner has programmed too advanced?

Hi mate,
How long have you been driving the car with the lock on?
Those settings look ok, except from 2500-8000 at 1000rpm you can take her up to about 15°
25°at 2k is ok
At 2500 you need to bring her down to about 20°
3000 about 16°
3500 about 14°
4000-5000 about 13°
5500 about 11°
6000 about 11°
6500 about 12°
7000-8500 about 12°-13°

These are just guidlines, and are dependent on what turbo you are using and what port. More importantly where your peak torque is, also depending on what split and plugs are being used.

These figures are also based on Static being set to 0, and the pulley remarked and adjusting the CAS to suit.

Give me a PM if needed.

I wouldn't recommend running the timing retard like that, as if you were off boost, driveability would be quite poor. Go ahead and run it up gradually on the t_rpm map. Then go to t_map and retard your timing through that. This way, you will have much better driveability off-boost, and when you get into boost area's you can retard however much you need.

I run 8* timing at idle, and it gradually goes up from there till I hit 28* at 3000rpm. Then from 3000rpm till redline, my timing is 28*. Then I went to my t_map and retarded the timing accordingly until it was 14* overall at 10psi.

I totally agree with your statement, those figures were given as a guideline and how he implements them is his choice.

actually your way is how i have my LT-8 configured currently. at idle i beleive i run 10* then goes up to 25* at 3k and stays constant til redline. on t_map i start pulling timing at 0" load point til i drop down to 14* as you stated. by the way have you dynoed your car yet?
