Tuning Advice Requested

Hello, have a wiring issues take care of and now I am up and running. Car feels sluggish when I stab the throttle, then picks up and accelerates pretty well.

What do you suggest?

Ok, the datalog is too big to upload, even if I zip it and split it in 3. If you are interested, email me at jebstir@hotmail.com and I will email it to you.

Thanks for looking. JEB

Megatune had some issues opening your MSQ (firmware mismatches...) but I think I was able to get a good look.

It isn't surprising that you are having major issues, judging by the VE table. It would help if we knew a little about your engine. I looked around but couldn't find anything. Your VE table is way too bumpy. There are rich spikes and lean drops. There is a huge lean section from 50-65 KPA at 2000-4600 RPM which would account for horrible throttle response. Your accel settings are adding way too much injector time, probably to compensate for the issue with the map.

The situation would be helped greatly if you linearize the whole map. An easy way to do this is by using MegaLogViewer to get a nice long datalog, then run a VE Analysis to set the whole table to some reasonable ratio (like 13.5) and then go a back and fine tune on your corrected table.

Great Aaron, thank you. I will do what you suggest.

Since writing my post I have gone back and read the tuning instructions again. I have read it a couple times before, but it was what I was going to do, now it is what I am doing. It makes more sense now. I am finally getting that it is a “process.” Idle, then VE tables, and then working on acceleration.

Ok, and thinking a bit more.
4 port with a vary large port, 50 mm twin IDA style throttle body. Here is what I am working with MSII with a v2.2 board (with embedded code 2.89). One of the guys designed and built a VR signal conditioning board for the ignition. I am running 1 VR circuit with a stock CAS with 2 of the 24v teeth missing (180 degree apart).

More thoughts?

Ah, now it comes together...Speed density won't work very well for that setup. You should switch to Alpha-N. The vacuum signal produced by a short manifold and ITBs is pretty ambiguous. There is a lot of crossover between load points on the map and different loads on the engine.

I took a look at your thread on the locost forum. Great work! I've been reading there for the past few days and it sure has given me the bug to build a rotary Locost.

I as well. Just have to figure out how to get the $$ past my finance department without incurring divorce! Gotta figure out something she wants of comparable value and gift it first... :-)

Thank you both for the complements 

It has been a REAL blast to build and more fun to drive!

Well, if you buy fresh steel the material for the frame will cost you about $250 (it is just over 100 lbs). Yet, since the longest piece is about 50 inches, you can get it all from end cuts at a salvage facility, then you can build a frame for $100. The project is simpler than I thought, just lots of little projects linked together. The real cost is time, for this I have created a formula

[(the time you think x 3.14) squared] less time for any other relationship] x [(what you think it will cost) to the 10th power x the time required to earn that amount]. Very simple!

I think my next step will be to go and read about Alpha-N
Thank you both.

I think I'd build it in aluminum. But we're just dreaming at this point since I already have too many cars...
