Settings?

In the FAQ Muythaibxr has posted screen shots of settings to make in Megatune (as a start-up point) for an S5 NA. Since those post are from back in October and November of last year are they still what we want to use or due to firmware changes etc. are there differant settings someone could post. Also is there anything I should set differant since my 7 is an `86GXL NA? I`m getting closer

Those settings should pretty much transfer to the later firmwares. The later firmwares just have other options that aren't in the older screenshots.

I printed the screenshots and entered the settings but after Megatune copies them to Megasquirt and I restart everything I`m getting a flashing fuelpump LED on the Stim. which I believe means there is a confirg. error. If I reflash to the original 029J firmware then the MS with Stim connected works normal.

I don`t have a copy of the previous firmware (029i). I would be willing to go back to that and enter the settings just to test. What ever the next step is I`ll provide as much info on my setup firmware as possible.

TIA.
Scott

if you've got a flashing fuel pump, there's a config conflict... which means you must not have entered the settings exactly.

using hyperterminal, connect to the MS then turn on the stim and tell me what error shows up in the hyperterminal window.

Ken I have already reflashed back to the 029J firmware as originaly downloaded.
The MS works like that now. I`ll have to re-enter all the settings and try again to burn them to the MS. It will be later this evening before I can do it due to my work schedule.
Thanks Again!

Well I put all the settings back into Megatune this evening and reflashed. The doggone thing seems to be working correctly. No error codes or complaints when starting Megatune now. I did have to turn the wheel simulator back on in order to see RPMs with the Stim. I have turned that back off now. With it on all inputs function including RPMs. With that off the output channel display shows "cranking" and all inputs function from the stim EXCEPT RPMs.

In the FAQ you state "I`m not going to post my VE table or AFR table until I have something I`m confident about posting" . Have you ever gotten something you are happy enough with to post?

That's up to tofuball, not me, as it's his car and his megasquirt that we did all the original work on.

I don't have any settings for my 7 yet as it's still awaiting its wiring harness (which will go in this week weather permitting).

you need to do the hyperterminal thing I told you to do above. There's no way of telling which settings are conflicting without doing that. Either that or save and post an msq so we can take a look.

Morning Ken,

I ran Hyper Terminal as you suggested and the following is what it shows on power up.

Config error with spark outputs or wheel decoder trigger settings.

I have re-made all of the settings a couple of differant times but am getting the same error.

I did use the generator for the VE and AFR tables but everything else was put in exact. There are some settings that are not shown in the FAQ but are in fact not grayed out with the new firmware. I did not make any changes to those settings.

Did you set up 3 outputs for spark without turning on rotary trailing?

Its outputs for your LED's this happened to me, if they are not all set to spark when you turn on trailing spark in the spark settings it goes into error mode, sorry I didn't chime in earlier.

Well I reset all settings as I found one in Wheel Decoder Settings that I must not have saved right because it was differant than what it should have been. I reflashed and now I have no errors on startup. There are still some questions I`ll post regarding what I see happening with the Stim.

1.) In Megatune I see the Fidle / Spark Light and the Fan / Output 4 Light flashing on and off rapidly.

2.) The Fidle LED on the Stim never goes out even when adjusted to normal running temp.

the fidle stuff is because you have PWM idle configured most likely.

I'm not sure about the Output4 light flashing on and off, but most likely if you're not using that output, there's nothing to worry about.

Okay I thought the output 4 light in megatune would not really be an issue since as you said I`m not using that output anyway.

What about the Fidle/Spark light in Megatune flashing on and off? Is there a problem in the making there?

When you say "the fidle stuff is because you have PWM idle configured most likely"
you are refering to the Fidle LED in the stim right.

If these are not causing any trouble but just results of the configuration then I may be ready to swap the Megasquirt for the ECU and see if it runs! At least that is what I`m wishing for.

that's what I meant by the Fidle/spark light flashing...

If you're using PWM idle control, or you have it configured, that LED will get brighter/dimmer, but will never turn off. If you're not even using the Fidle circuit for anything (not connecting it to the BAC valve for example) then it doesn't matter.

Wel it looks like I`m at the point of stabbing the CAS, which I`ve been doing some reading on, and hooking the MS up to the stock harness and working on starting the 7. I`ve got a lot of hours to work this weekend but I hope to fine SOME time Sunday to start this process. Thanks for investing time to help sort this out.
