running a MS without a TPS?

I have been told in the past that you can run the megasquirt without a TPS. I am running a custom TB set-up and mating a TPS to it would really create a problem.

If i just run a MAP sensor, how would i create a difference in full throttle, cruise, and light throttle MAPs? Is there a way i can measure load or another way to run without a TPS and still get a good tune.

The MAP signal will change based on your throttle position (as long as you're pulling from after the throttle plates anyway), so as long as you are using speed-density (NOT alpha-N) mode for fueling and MAP-based accel enrichments, you should be able to get it pretty well. You won't be able to do over-run fuel cut or closed-loop idle control though (unless you put a simple "throttle-closed" switch on the TB or pedal)
