Megasquirt Rich Idle
Rich Idle
Car at idle pulls 40-45kpa, 19 adv spark and idles around 11.5-12.0 AFR. It will not idle any leaner, it slowly dies if it gets above 12. The wideband is not directly after the turbo but about 30 inches from the turbo on the downpipe.
Just curious if anyone has any clue as to why this is?
On a better note, started tuning the car tonight. We worked in the 50-140 KPA range, up to about 6500rpms. Car runs real well in boost, lots of fine tuning still to go.
Manifold air temps were no higher then 105 unless we were sitting still. Coolant temps were in the 185-195 range no matter what we were doing.
We had a car fire tonight, the turbo blanket got a bit of oil into it and caught, sucks 80 dollars down the drain but it was starting to fray after owning it for 2 weeks so it basically was bound to get replaced anyhow.
So any help is truly appreciated.
Chris

That's only about 13-14". Seems low to me. How is the engine ported?
A healthy stock port will draw 17-20" at idle easily. Then again, if the engine is too rich, vacuum will be lower.
What are your injector times at idle? It is possible you simply can't get the injectors down any lower. About 1mS is the smallest amount of time that most injectors can open reliably.

Stock ports, I do not have the msq at home, but I will check it out next time I am at work.
Would uploading it be a good idea? It is embarrassing to have people see your fuel maps before they are smoothed out and finished being adjusted.
Ahh, on another note the req fuel is at about 6. I think it should be down to 3, I want to lower required fuel but scale the fuel map up accordingly. What is the proper way to go around this? I was taught but have not had to do it since, so I have no idea.
Any input is truly appreciated. Thank you.

I always just set required fuel to 10. 8 would probably be a better choice for you. It is basically arbitrary as long as it allows the VE table to have reasonable values.
You can scale the whole VE table by just highlighting it and then using the numbers and +- symbols in the top right of the window to add or subtract.

My 12A uses 720s w/o issue re injector opening time - ~2 ms (including opening time) a idle, 13.5-13.7 idle AFR. I use 0 BTDC idle timing - you're using 19? I know it's sorta apples and oranges (12A decent street port vs 13B stock port) I'm pretty sure the 13B stock idle timing for the GSL-SE is specced at 5 BTDC. Just some random thoughts....
Thanks for the info.
Is there a way to change required fuel and scale the map accordingly or is it trial?
I was going to try to set idle spark a good bit lower. I will also mention idle is 1000-1100.
