Questions before buying my megasquirt setup

I was looking at arroncake's right up on the Megasquirt and I just had a few questions on what all I needed to have a successful install.

I plan on getting the MSII 3.0 and the zeal daughter card for the dual VR circuit. Aside from the CLT, IAT sensor, injector clips and wiring harness what else would I need to get from diyautotune? Is the part consisting of the pull-up resistors still valid with this setup?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The only part of the daughter card you will probably be using is the VR circuit. So aside from not building that circuit, everything else is the same. The pullup resistors are required for any MS board up until the 3.57.

I understand and thanks for the quick response. One more question if I may. If I buy an assemble megasquirt from the forum, open it up, and post pics, can anyone confirm what needs to be done to the unit?

People should be able to tell you what needs to be done from some detailed pictures.

Just be careful about buying a used Megasquirt. Make sure the person who assembled it knows what they are doing.

That is unfortunate, its a great system man. Although, rtek is convenient so there is that.

First Megasquirt takes the longest that is for sure. Beginning to end it is a lot of work and I learned a TON about EFI and breaking the down its parts like you break down parts of an engine. Then while you are installing it you are learning about what conditions must be met for the engine to run well with each type of driving the car would be doing as idle, cruise, acceleration, and deceleration.

Gives you a lot of confidence when working with a cars wiring. I am not a Megasquirt fan boy but it is more then just a fuel management system, it is a self learning tool.

After having worked on MS code and hardware for almost 6 years now, I'd say it's taught me more about how engines work than I'd ever have learned otherwise.

I find also that I'm able to go help people with other systems very easily by doing the same things that help on an MS. Both software and hardware wise.

For example, I met a guy having a timing issue on a Miata that was running a hydra. It ran like crap at idle. It turned out the Hydra was trying to reduce timing to make the idle speed go down instead of reducing the idle air valve position. So I turned off the timing feature so that timing matched his timing table, and his engine started idling well. The point is that the procedure that I went through to figure out what was wrong was the same for his hydra as it was for my MS. Many of the same settings were even available.

I have several other examples of similar things that I was able to fix, even with the stock ECU because of what I learned when using the MS.
