Megasquirt New 1990 Vert!
New 1990 Vert!
I recently purchased another 1990 Vert RX-7. This will be my 3rd of the same year and style. It has been upgrade from the previous owner. At the moment my intentions are not clear. I was planning on ripping off all the parts for my other vert, but now, I would like to try to get it running. At the moment I can't get the Megasquirt to work. Basically I plug it in, and it cranks, but does not even sputter. I don't think the fuel is getting in there. I tried plugging in a laptop, however it could not connect to the MS. I think it was the serial cable I was using. I will try tonight with a bunch of other cables. When the key is at ACC I see 3 red LEDs. I assume that is good. When I plug in the laptop, the lights come off. I have searched the forum, and not found anything relevant. I have also looked and posted in the Megasquirt section of this forum, and no one has replied. If anyone has any suggestions, please reply! Thanks!
Here's some pics of my 7s.

I have received the Stimulator, the power supply. a proper DB9 cable, and a MS sticker for SPEED! I connected it and finally have a report of SUCCESS when i go into the communications menu. I can move the POTs and get various readings. The only one that does not seem to work is the Engine RPM.
I guess this means there is a problem with the custom wire harness in the car. Otherwise I should have been able to connect to this before. I believe out of all the serial cables I tried one of them is the correct type. I thank you all for your help, and will post further problems as they come up!
Thanks again!

OK, over the weekend I tried getting the car to work again. I plugged in the MS that has a functional map on it. Programmed with the help of the stimulator. When I plug the MS into the 7 and turn the key to ACC, I get the 3 red LEDs to light up, but when it cranks the engine will not turn over. The starter cranks, and I can smell fuel but no ignition. I also noticed that when the MS is plugged in and the car is cranking, the red LEDs shut off. So this means there is not the right type of power going to it. (hot on crank) There is a red 10AWG wire near the battery that gets bundled into the wire harness. When I plug that into the battery, I immediately hear a repeating clicking. This clicking seems to be coming from the pulsation dampener. When I touch the PD I can feel the vibration from the PD. I know that it does not make since that the PD is clicking, but it seems to be. It could be the Fuel Pressure regulator, but it doesn't have a very strong vibration when this clicking is happening.
Anyway, when this wire is hot, The MS stays on during crank. However the laptop still will not connect to it. And the engine does not start. Again, any help is appreciated! Thanks for reading!
