MS2 problems, still

I am currently using the stock CAS with the dual VR resitors mod with MS2 w/ PCB3.0

I am using tuner studio version .999.1 and with MS extra 2.1.0

I am not getting any ignition and I'm having AFR problems because tuner studio does not have my wideband.

I am using an AEM UEGO NON LINEAR 30-4100 and the only option I see is the linear widebands so I dunno if this is causing any problems.

the wiring has correct continuity from the harness to the CAS and I am using shielded wire.

the coils aren't firing but are within resistance spec and are recieving power so the LEDs aren't blinking they are just staying on.

I've tried both aaroncakes DIY guide and the DIY autotune''s suggested settings for ignition and they both do the same result.

I've tried multiple CAS's and its the same problem, even tried re stabbing multiple times with no luck (stock timing position too)

here is my data log during cranking:

what are we looking at there? The green line and blue lines are...?

The LEDs should be blinking. If they aren't, then I don't think that the MS is syncing to the engine properly; most likely this is a settings or noise issue. When cranking, do you see any RPM in megatune? Could you post up your MSQ file too?

If you trace the CAS wires within the MS, where do they go? The + wire that connects to the 24-tooth wheel should go to the designated tach-in input at the DB37, while the + wire from the 2-tooth wheel should go to the LM1815N VR+ input, with the - wire from each going to one of the MS's grounds, or to the ground of the LM1815N.

Another thing to check is that the LM1815N's output is going to the correct hole for the MS2 daughtercard, and that the jumpers for the tach-input are correct (inverted or not, depending on your megatune settings etc)

the green line is the trigger and the blue line is the tooth IICR.

Got the LEDs to begin blinking last night and it started and ran for about 10 seconds but then stalled as a huge cloud of atomized fuel filled the garage.

the MS is seeing engine RPM.

here is my MSQ attached.

That stall sounds like it was probably running too rich.

As far as the wideband goes, if it's not linear there's no way to make it work as a generic wideband. You'll have to talk to Phil (Tunerstudio author) about getting the curve for your wideband integrated into tunerstudio.

But if you've got the engine running you're most of the way there. After that everything else is just tuning.

The composite log should show 1 second trigger tooth every 12 main teeth. If it doesn't show that, it's likely you're having noise issues and may have to figure those out.

Well, if it fired up, then thats definitely a start, but I've somehow gotten mine to run when there was still plenty wrong... one memorable time was running when the old MS1-e's stim-for-RPM setting was turned on, yet somehow it was triggering at the proper times to run the car, but was sparking about 4x as frequently as it should have been. Either way, its a start!

Does the RPM show up consistently when cranking, with no lost-sync events? Based on what I'm seeing there, the trigger signal is going high way too often (b/c of noise most likely), and you're getting a bit of noise on the tooth signal too. You can adjust the two pots on the V3 board to try to clean up the tooth noise, but the trigger noise may be more difficult. Where do you have the shielded cable running in the engine bay? Where is the sheath grounded, and is it only grounded on one end (and the other can't be touching anything metal)?

I have the shielded cable running through the stock hole for the stock harness then following along the plastic loom cover that follows the booster line to the other side of the engine where it pops out right at the CAS as close as possible.

I;ll have to double check where I grounded the shielding but right now I am out of town.

Well, based on the cyclic nature of that noise you were seeing, I wouldn't be surprised if its being induced by the coils, which it sounds like your CAS wire is running pretty close to. I think the stock routing is through the engine (not emissions) harness, so its much lower, closer to the "frame rail" on the drivers side, although it still runs pretty close to the trailing coils to get into the cabin. If the shielding is grounded on both ends, then it isn't actually doing anything, making the signal succeptable to much more noise.

I'll take a look at the MSQ tonight if I get time, but it sounds more like a noise issue.

Maybe, depends if my GF gets her car back from her brother so I can do the timing belt. Where are you in MI?
