MS Logging

Well I've been datalogging the operation of my stock ECU. Basically all the readings are piggybacked off the wiring connectors at the ECU. Tach comes from the tach test connector off the trailing coil. Also I have the stock S4 TPS installed so the reading easily gets maxed out.

Here's a pic of a few 10 psi runs on the highway.

Do you guys expect the stock intake air temp sensor to be good enough for turbo applications? I wonder how good the response is--guess it's good enough for the stock ECU.

Both of the temp sensors read the same temp when I check the readings first thing in the morning. Appears like I have the resistor bias calculated correctly.

The Innovate LC-1 seems to be working pretty good. Notice the little bit of cruise at the end where the ECU is holding AFR at 14.7.

Hope to have EGT logging added in the next week or two.

Still trying to learn all the software and how to set MS up. Can't wait to start running fuel with the MS!

Cool! What I notice is that when you floor it, there's a pretty big lean-spike... that kinda suprises me... also surprising is how rich it goes under boost... it looks like it went all the way to 10:1 a couple of times.

Also, on cruise, the 14.7:1 could've been because of the emissions system adding air to the exhaust... but that depends on RPM and some other things.

I still think the narrow range TPS should be sufficient to get all the accel enrichment that you need too.

Anyway, good luck with the tuning when you get there!

Well, after looking at todays logs I'm seeing all kinds of surprises with the stock ECU--I didn't think it was this bad--holy crap what a POS. For some reason the stocker started running rich in what looks like an open loop mode during a steady cruise condition, bad thing is the egt stayed way up around 1400-1500 f. The afr was holding steady at around 13.5. Later in the log it got back into closed loop ego mode and the egt came back down to normal.

Yea I guess the only way that could be happening is the port air valve which allows air pump injected air into the exhaust port. Maybe I should disable the valve for logging--what ya think?

I think I'll put a volt meter on that solenoid and see what it is doing.

I hope so--I'll start with the narrow range and give it a try.

Thanks, sure you'll hear more from me soon.

Oh yea, and it looks like the stock MAT probe gets heat soaked pretty easy, not sure what to do about that one.

Anyone else seeing the same thing?

it isn't THAT bad... but if it's enough to change the AFR in open loop when just sitting there, the MS has heat soak compensation that you can tune.

Here's a log with the high egt and the strange open loop O2 mode:

and here's one that looks more normal and with much lower egt's:

Notice the difference in the AFR reading--and the egt in a more normal range?

MAT of 101 seems pretty normal to me if you're just sitting there... Tofuball and I saw much higher MATs on his NA when just sitting there idling... (we got up to 150 due to heat soak).

Now with the stock location of the MAT sensor (we were experimenting with other locations when we saw the really high temps) we are getting around 80 deg just sitting there.

As far as EGT goes, I'm not sure what is normal...

I'm not sure what the stock ECU was doing, it does all kinds of weird things... things that with the megasquirt you don't see because you purposely tune them out.

That is some great datalogging. What exactly is required to do this? Are you driving around with a laptop in the car, or will the MS let you save logs and download them later?

Very impressive stuff, either way.
