MegaSquirt Setup for ignition

Well I have been doing a lot of reading, although some is russian to me untill I get my hands dirty I think I know what setup I would like to use.

MS2 w/V3 Board. Firmware is still undecided, I havn't read the difference yet....

I would like to control ignition timing but was wondering if I could control the split?

From what I have read, the stock ECU runs almost 0 split about 1300rpm correct? Would I gain anything if I had split above 1300 or would it be to dangerous to have split above that?

Seems split is mainly for low rpm low load use?

Should I not worry and just run zero split from idle all the way through?

yea, MS has settings to control the trailing split, as for how much you want to run, thats more of a tuning issue. I run 15 degrees around idle and at WOT down to about 5 at low load and high RPM IIRC, although i havent played with it in a while. Check out some of the threads in here that refer to tuning the ignition timing, theres info in there on split as well.

Thanks, I guess I missed those threads since I did do a search. I read some where that the MS couldn't do split but I think that was with MS1 possibly

nope, MS1 can do split as well, its what im using right now. It cant do a negative split (meaning trailing fires first), but you wouldnt really want to do that anyway

Actually, negative split has some very interesting benefits if used correctly.

Yea, i remember hearing that the rx-8 runs some negative split at cruise, but i always thought it was emissions related. I tried it briefly with my 7, but it just made the engine stutter and miss at those speeds... i assume b/c the MS doesnt support negative split, but I didnt test further.

BTW, when is 029w going to be released? I'd like to get the high speed timing fix done before driving the car out to MI for grad school at the end of this month.
