Unhappy HELP with COM Port Problem

I have no problem with connecting to the LC-1 controller and programming it on Com Port # 4. If I set the same setting in MS (Com #4) I get no response when I run the communication test. I went through all the ports and same response. I have changed the Bits the speeds around but still can not sent Firm Ware or Program to MS computer in the car. I even tried different USB ports (Com Port 3, 4, and 5). Any Ideas guys?

so all you're trying to do is reflash the firmware on the megasquirt?

What version of the firmware are you starting out from?

Can megatune communicate with the MS?

If you're starting out from the original MS firmware, you have to power down the MS, and short the boot jumper, then power it back up before reflashing.

Unhappy Com Port Problem

I understand the steps that you are describing. That is not my problem. My problem lies in the communication between my computer and the Mega Squirt computer. I can not get them to link up with the flash or the Mega Tune. I can not link a com port to it. I have no problem with the USB adapter to the serial port of the LC-1 (From Innovate Motor sports). I have a V3 board with a MS 1 chip in it. I purchased two Mega Squirt computers from a company (ProtoCar Electronics Corp) off the internet through Mega squirt site. We ordered them with the daughter board chip, and then from your recommendation we changed over to the MS 1 chip (Purchased from Glen’s Garage). One of the two Mega squirt computers has had the pull up resistor put in it and the other has not been modified yet. We have two race cars built the same, mine is ready for next weekend for racing (Five days until first practice day) if only I can get this problem solved. When I power up the modified number one Mega Squirt computer the three led lights come on nice and bright and stay on but can not set a com port.

I plugged in the second MS in with no resistor in it and the middle LED light stays on for about 2 seconds the turned off. This second one has the same problem as the first no com port communication.

I looked closely at both boards and the company that built them did a flaw less job. To me it is so clean is as if a machine built both units.
I am going over to a friends place to day (WEST-SE) and have him look at both of them. West-se has helped me a great deal with this project so far and I believe he has a great understanding of these units and a strong back ground in computer programming. I will also send an e-mail to the ProtoCar Guys to see if they may have change something in both of these Mega Squirts. This is very unlikely so if some one has any Ideas send them. Help in this area would be appreciated. I will keep my eyes on the postings.
Thank you,
SCCA RX7 RACER

If you have access to a computer with a real comm port, that'd be the easy fix. If you are stuck with the USB-serial convertor, go through the thread below from msefi for extra help. For these general type questions you are much better off posting there, as the number of qualified people available to help is a couple orders of magnitude higher than here.

yeah, I've also seen that before you flash the chips, they won't communicate with megatune if it's already set up for msns-extra.

Stupid question: Did you make sure you inserted the chips properly? The behavior of the LED's should be exactly the same if you haven't reflashed yet.

The one where only the middle LED lit up should be inserted properly assuming you haven't managed to upgrade the firmware, so I'd check the other one where all three LED's lit up.

Many people have trouble with usb->serial adapters, so the thread that renns pointed at would be a very good one to read.

Turned out 1 of the MS-1 V3 chips where bad and it just wouldn't flash. In the end we were able to use a serial cable to flash the good MS-1 chip and once flashed everything was fine. No Kim is starting the wonderful journy into tuning, he was able to get it to fire up last night with minor setback.

Smile Com Problem Solved

West-SE had a look at my MS V.3 board and found a few problems on it plus the chip would not take a code. Also my adapter was not working. It's working now.
Thanks for the advice. I'm learning
