Description:
Debating selling these again...
Brand new set of Chips Motorsports billet stat gears with new bearings installed. Chip made a small batch of these beautiful pieces.
Per Chip:
"The gears are 4140 Chrome Moly, Case hardened all the way through. ( OEM are only hardened at the gear teeth 53-56 RC ) Our gears are 60/61 RC. All gears come with their matched data sheet to ensure 100% error free and correct specs.
OEM rotary engine main gear spec data sheet.
Long story short, it shows how inconsistent the gear tooth ways are.
Reason behind it, the way Mazda manafacture the gears, produces this uneven pattern on the teeth.
I took a brand new OEM gear to produce this chart..
Also pictured shows 2 gears that have been used and in action. On those used gears it can be seen the pattern left by the mating gear from rotor how they both fit.
It's not a even contact across the plain of the gear way, but a small area i would say 30% contact.
Now this is good for OEM application, but if you intend to use the part beyond its designed intended use. It don't take a rocket scientist to se my point.. "

Genuine question, but isn't this kind of pointless without having a similar gear for the rotors? Also, would the imperfections of the OE rotor gear kind of transfer over to these?
I know these are the best, but seems like only 50% of the equation. Unless the OE stat gears are known to crack under super high hp that I wouldn't know anything about.

An engine builder such as @Howard Coleman might be able to provide more insight as they would have decades of experience with highly stressed motors. Chip mentioned most of these gear sets went to the serious drag racing crowd, the crazy 2 & 3 rotor methanol based motors.

With Chip being MIA I have no way of getting any info on who has run these in the past.
