Description:

Hey guys,

Starting a new thread in the Marketplace for new black-finish dust shutter rebuild kits for FD3S. The kits includes a black finisher plates, new clean, white, plastic OEM type shutter pieces, and new springs. This will give you all the parts needed to rebuild the door lock outer dust shutters in an FD door locks. In case you are wondering, the dust shutter is the part that flips in as you insert the key in the door lock.

Because the shutter itself is plastic, it degrades over time from exposure to the sun, etc. eventually turning yellow/brown and finally crumbling into bits and falling into the door lock mechanism. When this happens, you can pick out the bits but then your door lock will be open to the elements and you then have to deal with the missing shutter. Mazda never sold the dust shutters by themselves and new locks are NLA now. This kit rectifies that problem. You can rebuild your door locks with a new white OEM plastic shutter plate, a new spring (if you have lost the original) and a new fresh black fascia plate to replace the scratched up original. If your car still has original dust shutters, they are probably pretty beat up by now if they even are still there at all.

FD's came with two styles of door lock finisher plate, chrome and black. Unfortunately, the chrome shutter kits are NLA now, only the black style is available. However, if you have a chrome finisher plate and need a new shutter this kit will still work as the shutter and spring are exactly the same, and the finisher plate is also identical except for black versus chrome. The original chrome finisher, even if scratched or rusted, can usually be restored with chrome polish - so it is still possible to rebuild chrome style lock using the original finisher plate. Or, an originally chrome plate-equipped FD can be fitted with black fascia plates - the parts are the same except for finish.

A pair of kits is $24, one kit per door lock (i.e. two kits per car). Shipping via USPS with tracking is $6 per order in the 48 states regardless of quantity International postage cost varies, usually $15-18 for a First Class mail package. Shipping is weight-based, so about 10 kits can be shipped for the same cost. More than that, a different package is needed and cost goes up slightly.

I bought one of these previously and haven't installed it yet, just giving a bump for a good seller.

BACK IN STOCK - While inventory lasts!

I have just gotten in some new stock of dust shutter kits, this is going to be the last batch - ever - as the supplier is now depleted of stock and they couldn't even fill my order completely. But, I do have some. The supplier increased the cost slightly unfortunately and postage has increased in the last year, so now a set of kits (2 kits, enough for 2 door lock assemblies) is $32 shipped within the US (+$2 from before). If anyone wants to get these for their FD, now is the time. As far as I can determine, there is now zero inventory for these kits, anywhere (except for folks who may have purchased extras from previous sales, that is )

I can also ship internationally, but have to get a postage quote. Typically, it is around $15-20.

I think I have already pm'd everyone who inquired about these in the last 6-7 months, if I missed you just pm me again. Everyone else, please pm me if you have interest.

As a reminder, this is what is usually going on with the original dust shutters (if they have not crumbled into bits, that is):

And this is what you have after the repair:

Paid. Will be a sad day when these are gone. Absolutely invaluable support for the community here. MasterCard “priceless” commercial comes to mind.

^ Thanks bro! Yes, it will be a sad day for sure especially since complete door lock assemblies are NLA. Not sure what the path forward will be for this particular repair.

Anyway, your kit sets are shipping tomorrow. Tracking info sent!

I have got a pair a couple years ago and haven’t installed them yet. Do you have any installation instructions?
