So I'm out for a drive around town in my 85 rx7 (V8 conversion), nowhere really, just cruising. Pick up the g/f, and as I pull up to a stop sign (I'm turning onto this 4 lane road, they don't have a stop) a nice little s10 drives by... Low, HUGE hood cowl, fat tires and a very loud rumble. I've seen this truck around town, and it does have some go to it. Healthy V8 with a 4 or 5 gear, pretty quick.

Anyhoo, I jump on it to 'casualy' catch up to him, and funny thing.. we end up at a red light with eachother.. His truck is so loud idling, I have to assume he couldn't hear MY V8 rumbling.. the light turns and he slowly gets on it, obviously not giving me a second look. as we cross the intersection, I step into it.... He gives me the 'huh?.. yah right' look, and slams it to the floor.... you know that almost deafening sound of a drag car taking off and winding out? Like the end of the world kinda thing? Yah...it was something like that beside me.

So I smile, the g/f yells at me (I don't remember exactly WHAT she was saying..), and I plant my right foot to the floor. I'm running a 3 speed auto,and a full throttle hit at a slow enough speed will force the thing back into first gear, (which it did), and really throw you in the seat. So after a bit of wheel spin, it hooks up and WHOA.. hang on! We went head to head for a few moments, but I started to pull away once I hit second. Not by a lot, but I was definatly nosing ahead of him.. It was funny... he kept looking over like he was thinking.. "WTF?!? Why can't I loose this stupid little Mazda?!?!" I was having fun, but then I got woried... I didn't know if I had hurt something, cause my car wasn't really pulling hard anymore... At this point, I called it quits... we're in town after all, and I was doing over 100k. Took me a few seconds to figure it out, but I never even got into 3rd gear, cause I had the shifter in 2nd the whole time!!! (guess I was around 5500rpm or so, and a chev V8 is a little winded up there!)

The S10 kept his foot in it and blew past me as I braked, and then he slowed down a ways away. At the end of the road, he went left, and I went right.. gave him the thumbs up as I passed him (he caught a red light, had to wait) but his tint was so dark, I couldn't see if he did the same, or fliped me the bird... I pulled a masive burn out as I made my right turn anyway..
