FD vs EVO 9 MR really strange outcomes...

About a week back I raced an EVO...we rolled from 45ish and he was brake boosting I was not. Same outcome every time we pulled to 110-120 he had about 2 or so good cars on me. So tonight I'm racing the same guy from a dig, waiting to be destroyed by his powerful AWD launch. I launched and was ahead the entire time, even at the launch. Seems like we were almost even at the very beginning but than as soon as I got traction I just left him like he would with me on the highway, we did 3 runs from a dig and I had him by 2 or so cars each time...

Only a couple variables different in the races...
Evo had a passenger this time as well
I replaced some vacuum hoses

I was racing on a full tank as oppose to before I was racing near E. We can't seem to get the evo to launch right...any tips? I can't determine if hes beating me on the highway because of the brake boosting but thats my only guess. Just thought I'd share since the results are the exact opposite as to what I thought they would be.

Also, my mods are in the sig, the MP isnt installed right now though just the stock cat

evo 9 has full exhaust and a 20g turbo boosting 1.5bar

Exclamation

As far as launching the AWD cars, I suggest a nice clutch system and high rev launch like that above 5,000rpm you want the tires to spin which is hard to do on an AWD unless you have nice power mods...so you have to rev high up to break the tires...

I have also heard that AWD cars are hard to launch correctly.

Raced a stock one from a 70 roll at 8psi with alot less mods in my sig, it had no chance of catching up.

I read in car and driver that it was really hard to launch the EVO's because of there clutch. Its much easier to launch the STI's. Also when I was at the track last wednesday there was an EVO 8 MR there and his best time was a 14.0 and mine was a 13.4 I was supprised he couldnt do better.

I find most AWD owners either don't know how to launch them or are afraid to because the tranny will break. Kinda defeats the purpose of owning the car and running around claiming how AWD owns everything from a dig.

The brake boosting helps a lot from a roll especially if he has a slow spooling turbo.

yeah i remeber that vid. I also was talking to a mitsubishi mechanic and he said that people kept destroying there clutches launching at to high rpms so now mitsubishi is putting limiters so they cant launch past 5k.

Yep, the two step was introduced on the EVO 9. To the ignorant it sounds like bouncing the rev limiter. Of course my friend still burned the clutch on his IX.

I wonder if GT-R34s have the launching problems of STis and EVOs. I've driven an EVO and my FD tearing around a parking lot back to back, and I prefer my FD it feels faster and in tune with my senses.

I'd still ike to own an EVO for DD duties one day though.

Unless you're launching with boost, dropping the clutch usually just causes the car to bog. A nice slip from ~5k works on my DSM. With a stutterbox at 8PSI, it will get off the line ok even if I dump the clutch.

I used to launch my 400bip Scoobie from around 6k and just side step the clutch.....it did go through 3 gearbox's in the year and a half of ownership but it could never be said that I didn't launch the **** out of it.....

I also had anti-lag/launch control installed....which I never actually used that often because I made the decision that shagged gearbox's were cheaper than shagged turbo's....

If he doesn't fancy braving the sidestep launch.....you could always get him to load up on the hand-break....
