FD vs 323 GT-X (60-1 turbo)

93 FD vs 93 323 GT-X (fwd conversion)

GT-X: basically everything modded, FMIC, 60-1 turbo, fuel, etc, etc. (12lb run)
FD: see sig

We pull up next to each other at 55/60 and I'm running 3rd @ 5500. He honks and I don't hear him but go for it when he does. He starts pulling on me slowly and I keep in it and we shut down around 120 hes about 2 car lengths ahead. We line up again and open up dead even and hold on. He starts pulling on me and I hit high boost and pull over 7 car lengths on him up til about 130 where we shut down. A GTO6.0 and a T/A pull up shortly after our encounter and we both lunch on them pretty bad, about 4-6 car lengths.

Ugly but capable, but I would still prefer the FD Nice run.

why would someone convert an AWD car to a FWD car?

But ya, the 323GTX is a great car. Very powerful, great engines, fairly light(for an AWD car).

heh my dad used to have an old 86/5 323 1.5 liter. very very light car(way way lighter than anything I've seen in awhile, probably closer or lower than the 1st gen 7). enough power and they can probably haul *** pretty well.

very true. a friend of mine acquired a 92 ford festiva with the 323 gtx motor completely gutted and all he has on it is fmic and exhaust. teh night he got it running we ran a vato in a brand new 335ci bimmer and killed it in a quarter. it was lots of fun.

He told me he converted it to FWD b/c it's so hard to find replacement parts for the fragile as glass AWD tranny.

His car is really fast, I was completely surprised. Easily the faster of most of the cars I've raced. I think the 19 psi STI was the only thing faster than his car, but the FD still won. :-D

How much power are you and him making? You've got 3.91 final drive? So you never swapped out for the 4.1?

Never swapped out for the 4.1's. I just figured I'll be upgrading the turbos again soon and I already have enough traction problems.

According to my PFC w/ a peak limit of ~93% injector duty @ 11psi I figure I am around 300whp. AFR's @ 11.5 all the way through the range. Still tuning the timing just right though, I'm just toying around right now until I get the time to install the fuel upgrades.

He's supposedly dyno'd @ 266whp/10lbs.

That 323 was never AWD. I know the previous owner of the car(Nick). He swapped in a GTX motor. That's it. It was never AWD. It does have an upgraded turbo, but I highly doubt it makes 266whp. Just some thought. I know it did run in the 13 second range in the 1/4 mile. But, I don't think it was ever dynoed. At least not that I heard about.

Either way though, the guy who bought the car from Nick may have done some more stuff to it and had it tuned, so I could be wrong.

I need to get in on some of this action going down in Raleighwood sometime.

I keep telling ya to come out here sometime! You missed some sweet drag cars out here last week. There's a old school Toyota with some rotary action floating around wanting to race...

ledgebmx, you ever make it out to NCRotaries meets? Dee, have you been to one since the big emplosion within our group? LOL We don't meet at that Char-grill anymore. One meet is at Southern States Mazda and the other is at a place called Grill 57 or something like that. www.ncrotaries.com

Good kill. I was just reading about those in 0-60 magazine a couple months ago. I never knew about them. True, and ugly car but apparently very capable and badass that they came out so long ago. I always feel like I missed a major part of history when I hear about a car like that, something that came out so long ago but probably kicked *** even then, haha.

Well basically Bert and a couple other folks don't make it much anymore. It had to do with DGRR07, Phil Sohn, our club...a few of us didn't get along for a while, haha. But the group is doing very well now, especially since I've been gone the past few months, it sounds like everything is going very well anyway. I haven't been to a meet in about 6 months or more, but I'm going on Feb 23rd, I think it's at Southern States, you gonna be there? If ledgebmx ever checks this hopefully he can make it out.
