'93 R1 vs. '07 C6 Vette

A little while ago I was driving around town, and ahead of me was a new C6 Corvette(not ZO6). He was in the lane that went straight through the intersection, slowing to a stop. I pulled into the left turn lane (with no intention of racing), also at the red light. Before the Vette stopped, he pulled out quickly into the second left turn lane right next to me. He rolled down his window, and I rolled down the passenger window. He says Nice car, those are pretty fast, so I said yea, its not too bad. He said we should go somewhere and race, but I said to him, man you'd waste me. Just then the light turns green, and we both turn left, once out of the intersection, he hits it hard. Those new corvettes seem so quiet at idle, but when you open it up, those things roar! I couldn't resist, so I punch it, and we get to another light. He yells over let's get on the freeway. So I followed him when the light turned green and we got on the freeway. We slowed to about 40 mph, and he honked it off. Right off the third honk he started to pull on me, but it wasn't too bad, until we hit 140mph, then he pulled like 4-5 car lengths on me. I pulled back up next to him, and he gave me the thumbs up, so all in all it was fun. Sorry it isn't the most exciting story, but I don't wanna be making BS stories. Anyways, I am kinda shooting at getting to be about as fast as the new C6, while keeping the twins. I think those C6's have the LS2 with 400hp. My mods are DP, 3 in cat-back(stock main cat), Apex'i intake, Greddy smic, and Power FC. I don't know how much power I have, but I guess around like 280 at the wheels. So hopefully in a few more months, if I run into another C6, I'll be able to hang with him!

Sounds like you raced a cool corvette driver. Always a plus. Good run man. With some more mods you should keep up or creep on him. Just look out for the 08' C6. Picked up more displacement and 30 more hp and torque stock.

Power FC
non-sequential twins
Greddy profec B Spec II set @ 12 psi

I'm guessing around 300 ish RWHP...

I was behind a new red C6 with an exhaust system and maybe some other mods, not sure. The road we were on went from two lanes down to one so I knew he was going to floor it. The light change and he did exactly what I though, foot to the floor. He jumped me by about two cars but I caught right up and hung my left side over the line letting him know I wanted to go around him...The car was pretty quick...

I have between ~360 - 400 rwhp running on the twins.

As the guy above said, its been done before. Mr. RX-7 TT has the same mods as my yellow car (yet a more aggressive port job & ceramic seal set). He's built/ported/boosted/N20 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gen rotaries for 26+ yrs. He knows exactly what he's talking about.

With the mods you have, and a properly tuned PFC, you should be able to run 13-14 psi. At that boost level, you should be very close with the C6, maybe even beat him

Sure, you clowns are so ignorant.

Yellow R1 made 357 rwhp on a hot California day on a heat soaked engine with a slipping clutch at 14 psi. Steve Kahn couldn't finish tunning it because the clutch wouldn't hold. (Streetport and all the bolt ons.) The car was not on a dynojet either but a MUSTANG dyno which reads lower than a dynojet. (5-10% lower than a dynojet)

The dyno will be posted shortly.

Steve Kahn also tuned another engine last year with a streetported engine I build, same port all the bolt-ons with stock twins, the car made 374 rwhp.

How much did Merlin just lose?

Here is my RX-7 on stock twins after ~ 45 minutes on a heat soaked motor (and a slipping clutch according to Steve Kan because the pulls were on a Mustang Dynojet dyno which has a significantly heaver load than a typical non load bearing Dynojet). As such, this 356 rwhp pull was ~ 13% lower than my 405 rwhp pull on a normal dynojet the following month. It's not as much power as my SLK, but it weighs 700 lbs less.

There are several experienced rotary people on this forum that put down between 350 - 410 rwhp on stock twins.

Take another glance there genius, I never said it wasn't possible, but I don't know of anyone on stock twins who simply rides around with that much power. You said you were driving around, ran into a 'vette, and spanked it because you have ~360-400hp. First of all, that's a huge gap. Around the 360 mark, ok sure with some port work, every bolt-on imaginable, and the boost turned up a good deal, but that's still pushing it. Now riding around with 380-400, on stock twins... not for more than a week you won't. I believe AnthonyNYC pushed his stock twins that hard and they popped on him in pretty short order. Even at around 380hp you're in the 17psi region and the twins simply won't push more than that and they certainly won't do it for more than a few trips.

So let me rephrase. No, I don't believe you make 380-400hp, consistently, every day. In fact I'd be surprised if you did it even at the strip, unless you like hunting for twins every month or so.

360 rwhp with streetport and the bolt on @ 14 lbs will get you there. Look at yellow R1's dyno at 14 psi on a mustang dyno with a heat soaked engine and a slipping clutch. He was already there. Now turn up the boost a two or three more pounds and guess what? 380 plus, easy.

Again you don't know what you are talking about. I run 17/18 lbs of boost all the time and have been doing so for years. If you know how to drive the car and you don't run the **** out of it every stop light they will last at those levels. As a matter of fact I decided to build myself a ceramic seal engine, they make more power something else I am sure you didn't know, anyhow I looked at the twins and they are still in fantastic shape after 70,000 plus miles...Slight crack, they'll easily go another 35,000 miles.

Got any other comments you want me to school you on?

Yeah, I said, "No you don't." Not, "No you don't, because it's not possible." Big difference there, chief. Speaking of schooling me, maybe you'd like to go back to the Sylvan Learning Center and pick up a few more lessons. I already said that it's possible, should I start repeating everything I say since you can't seem to get it the first time?

And no, you will not be able to run stock twins at 17/18psi for 105,000 miles. That's simply not true and there are tons of people on this forum that have had theirs crap out on them in less than a tenth of that time AND with less boost. You even said so yourself that stock twins won't hold up very long, it's in an old post I found.

wow, some people can think they're wrong. no means no, it doesnt mean maybe if you do this or do that, it means NO as in IMPOSSIBLE. by Mirram websters definition

"1 a chiefly Scottish : NOT b -- used as a function word to express the negative of an alternative choice or possibility" meaning no possibility of it happening.

so in fact you saying "If they're stock twins, no you don't." you said you have to have something other than the stock twin turbos for it to happen. you were wrong, they are right, get over it. btw, impressive numbers on stock turbos, i hope someday i'll hit 300whp on my fc myself.(turbo swap of course.) and you just got schooled on English. why read up on what people do and believe everything everyone says, and try something sometime.

Thanks Webster, I'll be sure to try something sometime. But seriously, you guys wanna say you can push 30lbs. through stock twins and get 800hp and it'll be as reliable as a honda civic, by all means, go ahead. Lol, I mean, there are tons of people on the board who do it right? See'em all the time..... Normally their cars are sitting on blocks, but hey! There was this one guy who hit 399 right before his apex seal shot out of the exhaust pipe! Bet I hit 450hp when my car spiked to 20psi, so you're right, I guess you can get 400 on stock twins. Just gotta crank up the boost high enough and pray the car makes it down the track.

1reven7 has the only dyno chart I've ever seen where stock twins made more than 360hp. I'd be interested to see how his car held up considering that was 2 years ago. As far as any higher than that, 390-400... To what end? The twins just won't hold up, period.

You should try running more boost so you can speak from experience. Stock twins last me about 2-3 years of high boost (17-19lbs.) Of course I only drive the car a few times a week but when I do I don't baby it. It can be done. Don't be so pesssimistic. By the way I blow by C6 vettes. The new Z06 I can only edge out by about half a car in the quarter.
