Un-tombed TurboII
Un-tombed TurboII
(Sorry in advance if this is a double post. I wasn't sure if the first one went through.)
First off, my name is Paul, I'm from the Houston, my DD is a blue mazdaspeed 3, and I'm trying to drive my 1990 Turbo again. And now for the short story..
Somewhere in the late 90's I bought and 1990 RX7 Turbo II, which shortly after started having problems. A locally mazda specific shop blew what seems to be a bunch of smoke up my ..... and lead me to believe that fixing it would be incredibly expensive. So as a college student with little money, and even less mechanically skill, I decided to store it.
Well after almost 10 years of storage, my RX7 is being ousted from its long term resting place. Initially I placed it on craig's list and I was surprised about about all the responses I got. Some by helpful enthusiasts and some by twits.
Now with a budget, some automotive experience, and some encouragement from some local rx7 guys, I have decided to keep it and restore it.
This Saturday I have turned/freed the engine, replaced the plugs, changed some hoses. I actually got it running for a few minutes by pouring gasoline into the intake, and the motor sounds great!
It seems the compression and ignition are there, so my next step is to change the fuel filter and check the fuel pump. Shortly after I will replace the badly leaking and smoking turbo, and fix the brakes (master cylinder) I assume.
I am a total novice at rotary motors, so any advice on things I need to look out for, best way to diagnose the fuel issue, the best vendor for oem replacement parts, bewhere I find cheap used turbo/rebuild/aftermarket, absolutely anything... will be totally appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Sup man. Tomorrow I'm replacing the fuel filter, checking fuel pump voltage, and picking up the clutch parts. I plan to have it where I can drive it down the block by the weekend.
The turbo is my next project. It is leaking like crazy.
