South Florida: My 2nd gen RX7
Hey everyone. I'm Andy
It's a pleasure to join the forums.
I had a first gen RX7, about a decade back. It was very cool, and a unique car, but man ... was it loud... Loud is quite normal in most rotary cars, I'd imagine, but this was some serious overkill. And it was slow. The first gen really needs the 13B or some serious work on the 12A--which might actually be pretty cool. Anyway, what do I know; I'm still a big noobie, but I found my way here, and I hope to learn more.
I just picked up a nice looking and pretty well-maintained, 2nd gen RX7 (...at least I hope well-maintained). My hopes and aspirations for this car is great handling. It already handles amazing, so I could only imagine what a professionally built and extremely fine tuned race-ready 2nd gen RX7 is capable of. I know it's expensive, but I plan on keeping this car for the long-term. I want to start slow, and make it handle a little better with every upgrade. Power means little to me. I want excellent handling.

And excellent handling and braking are what you're gonna get with the RX-7. It sounds like you've got the priorities straight when it comes to upgrading RX-7's...hit the suspension before the power. Hopefully, you'll get a lot of solid ideas to accomplish that w/o dropping a ton of $$$ as you read through the website and see what has been accomplished. Not everyone drops the dime to get the latest hardware.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
Over a decade ago I fell in love with the FC. Both of my friends had one. Then soon after I bought an FB--which I hated because it would never start ... and it was way too loud.
I just couldn't bear that carburetor. It obviously needed tuning and I had no patience back then. It was an all out mission just to start that 1st gen
Still, they are beautiful cars. I just couldn't handle the hard start issue and all of that noise out of a pretty stock 12A with an overdone exhaust, and a big hole cut out in the back.
I think that 1st gen gave me lasting tinnitus. Loud doesn't even even begin describe that sound.
The original owner was trying to cut weight and was about to drop a 550+ HP 5.0 Mustang engine into it. I think that would have been overkill, but it never panned out. That engine actually almost went into this car too. That would have been cool, but not for me. I love rotary's.
Anyway, I am very happy with my 2nd gen. Suspension is done. Brakes are done. Wheels and tires are done. I went with 265/35 18" wheels, for the rear, and 225/40's in the front.
Most important, I just got my alarm installed today.
It looks pretty good and it's taking shape. It now handles amazing! I see great potential in my new RX7!
