Im working on transportation from Wyoming to Florida now.
my plans once she arrives are:
- rebuild the carbs and go through her as best I can.
- fix the rust, dent, and fiberglass issues.
- Remove the gold paint and pin stripes and have her repainted high gloss black.
- ceramic coat her
- considering replacing the gold rims with something better and not gold. Or paint them.
- Reupholster the carpet and interior as needed and replace the seats
- Clean up the engine bay and dress up the hoses and cables
- Replace the window tint.
- fix the stereo and controls inside
- And then maybe show her.
but not sell her.
I’ll be looking through the build threads for first gens for ideas
honestly, the body mods are interesting, but not my cup of tea. that said, i respect it though, and despite my difference in taste, i can say the car looks really nice. sort of 928-ish at the front. post some more photos when you get a chance.
i'm definitely interested in coming along for your journey of getting the car together. you mentioned "carbs", so if that means what i think it does, then i'm interested that much more.
good luck, and you've come to the right place for help and camaraderie.
It looks like he went for that Porsche 928 look for the front bumper. The knock offs on the wheels are pretty cool too. Pretty slick and unique looking!
Sorry to hear about your pops, he had good taste in cars.
With all of the modifications, and since your father was the original owner. I would say 10k +. While someone might not pay that much for it you couldn't replace it for that price.
Your father's car is very cool. That 13b with twin carbs intrigues me, and I really love the look of those seats.

I told the insurance company 15k. Not sure what to do about the seats
Insurance has been discussed on here before, you may want to do a search on the topic. You might want to consider an agreed value type of policy. (maybe thats what you did). As mentioned, you should use a replacement cost as a value. Regular policies will total the car out for even minor damage. $15K is a good amount.
Any seat can be re-covered. Or, there are cars out there being parted out, plus stock seats come up for sale. Shipping is the costly part.

thanks for the info. Yeah I saw some of the insurance discussions. I put the car on an antique policy. In Florida, the car doesn’t have to be registered antique with DMV to get that insurance. I’m looking into if I should get classic plates or not. I think the car meets all of the requirements but I’m not sure the value of it just yet. I’m sure I’ll find something on here about it once I have time to look.
As almost none of the car is original, I don’t plan on putting original seats back. The rollers and leg extensions work well, so I may just get them reupholstered.
Recaro is European I believe and has been a high end supplier or a long time. Upholstery won't be cheap either. I'd estimate a complete re covering at a good shop will easily be $2500 too. Welcome to classic car ownership!
Sorry to hear about your Dad. He certainly built a very unique and cool car! Looking C3 Corvette influenced imo. Keep us posted with updates. Love to see it back up to speed.
I remember your thread in the 1st Gen section. I'm really glad to hear thay you've decided to keep the car. There's no doubt that your dad cherished the car and would want his son to do the same. Well done.

Wow, I would have never guessed someone outside of Recaro would offer replacement fabric. Thats a great find. They even have some plaid that is close to what came OEM in some early built 79's.
