Really Rotary
Hello, Jay here. I drove a 1990 GTU from 1998-2004, but since I like to have my cake and eat it too, my new RX7 rotates on electricity alone. There's no smoother rotary than an electric motor, and a series-wound DC machine provides great low-end grunt. This car is an old school EV conversion done in 1993 by the original owner, an electrical engineer at UCLA and expertly maintained as a commuter EVer since. I'm also using it as a low-range commuter for the next couple of years until the current pack of flooded lead-acid batteries is dead, and then it'll be time for serious lightweighting; removing the 1188 lbs of lead in favor of a lightweight lithium pack and high performance motor controller (and return to stock springs)! Till then I'll take it easy in the old lead sled.

That is a very cool car you have there. I live in the PNW area as well, so welcome!

I would love to see this some day. I've considered doing the same to one of my FD's. Do you attend any of the Cars and Coffee events or meets? Check out the NW section if you haven't yet.
Thanks for the responses. I don't get to cars n coffee often, but usually make the Greenwood Hot Rod Show in the Seattle Electric Vehicle club section, as well as a couple of XXX Drive-In shows. I'll check out the PNW section of the forum for local events.

Thanks for the responses. I'll check out the NW section for relevant events, haven't made it to any cars n coffee due to Saturdays full of children's activities. I usually bring a car to the Greenwood Hot Rod show and also to the XXX Drive In electric vehicle shows.

Awesome find! Easily the best looking electric car on the road. Would love to see some more pictures of the build! The car itself looks to be in great condition too, even just seeing one in this nice of shape is a sight to see.
The lithium pack will weigh 50% to 75% less, so the front will be close to stock weight and the rear will probly need less spring.
It has a 1994 repaint and unfortunately the clearcoat is coming off in sheets, but that's nothing a little baby oil can't hide from 20 feet! 😅
I got no parts with the car, so am gathering spares and refreshing the interior, etc. for long term viability. I could use some tan interior plastics, as the pillar trim and e-brake cover are badly UV damaged.
