hey funkjaw,
I actually just put a deposit down on an FD3S last night!! I'll be picking it up next week sometime! I'm excited! excellent condition, never winter driven, no rust anywhere, interior is clean as well, fully loaded with leather and sunroof, simple mods(exhaust and intake filters only changed, I believe the exhaust includes the downpipe, from what I could see when I looked underneath)
I am very excited! hopefully there won't be much/any issues with it haha I will do all basic maintenance once i get her home, ie oil change, spark plugs, flush rad, etc...

it's got 113,000KM on it, so about 70k miles?
I'm picking it up either this coming weekend or the next, not sure if i'll have time to go this week!
only mods are full exhaust(including downpipe), and the stock intake box is out, there are two K&N filters on.
i'll post pics as soon as I can!

just picked her up yesterday!
I need to replace the rear brakes...to pass safety inspection, the rear calipers were apparently replaced(the seller told me this when he did the safety check at his mechanic's shop last week), but as i was driving home, when i was slowing in for gas, this loud screeching like metal on metal sound came up...reallllly loud...
whether i'm braking or not, same noise, when i'm moving slowly, as i move faster, it gets faster and goes away(so it is either the rotor or the pad that's making the noise). I thought maybe something got stuck between the pads and rotors, like a rock chip or something...
but anyway, i spoke to a friend, and he said that the pad must be done, as the warning shim is directly in contact with the rotor to make that noise...
sooo my mechanic is on vacation until tuesday, so i'll be just parking her until then.

oh and as for mods, from what I can see, it has K&N cone filters(stock intake arms), downpipe and cat-back exhaust. I think the stock cat converter is still in place, and it passed emissions test with flying colours, so it must have a cat converter haha
and a boost gauge on the a-pillar...other than that and 17" BSA rims on crappy Wanli(235/45/17) tires lol, completely stock, bose system seems to be fine, speakers are nice, i don't think the cd player works
it's a 1993 Touring.
once i get the rear brakes replaced, i will slowly to reliability mods, starting with addressing cooling issues, install a 2nd oil cooler(I will be looking into converting a driver's side one since those are readily available and cheaper than purchasing an r1 oil cooler set), making a duct for the intercooler, putting a slightly larger intercooler, upgrading the rad to maybe a Koyo unit, and we'll see from there

Nice find, I love the 3rd gens. Currently sporting a 91 convert (non turbo) it's a nice head turner... I need to drop a gen TII engine w/ turbo in it and mod it. I can't wait to have a sleeper convertible that will blow the hell out of everything haha.

I thought the same as I read about that happening to a lot of bmw owners on another forum.
Anyway, so yesterday morning it was bothering me so much I couldn't sleep in, I got up and took the car for a drive around the neighbourhood trying to get the noise going again so i can pinpoint it...didn't happen
i jacked it up, took the rear driver's side wheel off, started looking around...turns out it was the stupid brake dust shield touching the rotor on the backside lol
it was about 1mm off, so maybe after driving on the highway or wahtever, it started touching the rotor, but I just got a screwdriver and bent it back about a 1cm to be even w/ the rest of the dust shield, and voila! no noise! i drove it around all day yesterday and it was fine.
so that's put my mind at ease...although I feel bad about spending money replacing the rear pads all because i was too lazy to inspect it myself when I first picked up the car(my friend who's a mechanic told me it was probably the pads based on the description I gave him and I even drove it by a random shop that told me the same thing, they said that's the noise it makes when the pads are super gone)
normally I do all I can and bring only big jobs to mechanics, but i guess i was just so excited to finally own an rx-7 I didn't want to risk damaging anything haha
