Ouch!
My first post on a club such as this. Short story is as follows. My oldest son has dreamed of having a first or second generation RX& for a couple of years now. We stumbled on a nice ride by chance in late May here in Oklahoma. As luck would have it all three of our other vehicles were totaled in a spring hail storm in April and we were flush with cash.
91 RX7 with 108k original miles. Original owner gave it to his father in law when he and the wife needed the garage for new Hummer. Elderly gentlemen drove it once and said enough with this and daughter thrashed interior in just a few months. No AC, 110 F summers, lived in red dirt country 20 miles from nearest town with a gas station. She hauled her dog with her everywhere in this baby.
I spent a few weekends detailing interior and getting ready for driving everyday to work. Tags, title, etc. and I started driving. A few minor defects of age but interior is in good shape. Oil leak on front main rotor shaft was a concern but seemed to slow down after I started driving every day.
What a thrill to have a car this fun to drive on my single income four children and wifestyle family. I have always spent everything on them up to this point. Well that stops now since I have crossed the threshold of moving from the full size van or mini van to this baby. Wow, Wow, oh my I am going to be spending time in traffic court. So I thought for a few weeks.
I promised the son this banshee was his at the end of the school year if he brought home all A's. Wellllllllll, his AC quit on his car and it was in the shop. I was back in my full size van since he hates parking it at the high school. So what the heck, let the kid drive dad's car to school one day. You know the rest of the story. He didn't handle the power around the back of the old Wal-Mart like he can with his little four banger civic. Power spin, touched the brakes and pow! Drivers side wheels square to the curb and bent well under the car. Man, what a downer.
Now I am in the hunt for a roller to drop the drive train and engine into or I will part this baby out. Junk yards won't even come pick it up here in Tulsa. I will keep you updated on my progress to restoration. Fire85gslse has just what I need, but I need guidance on how to reach him through the links. I don't have enough posts to make contact at this point and could use some help. Anyone with guidance is appreciated.
