ON Original Owner

I am the original owner of a 1980 Mazda RX7 GS.

Upgrades over the years have included a Rotary Engineering High Performance Exhaust System, GSL-SE front struts, larger front disc brakes, LSD rear differential, rear disc brakes, Tokico shocks and springs, and Energy Suspension Bushings.

My little 12A has delivered over 225k .. however I've decided it's time to upgrade to a Renesis 13B. I know there's lots of Renesis haters out there .. however my plan is to basically try to future proof my car for the foreseeable future.

The engine swap is being done by Chip Motorsports in Warren Michigan. I will be posting a build thread in the 1st Generation Specific (1979-1985) section.

Welcome to the forum! You have a beautiful 80! While many of the 12A parts are getting harder to find, many 13B parts are still readily available. You can keep the car current without a Renesis 13B. However, the Renesis does have a good amount of power and would be very fun in an SA! Keep us posted on how things turn out!

Here's a link to my build thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...-swap-1152793/

I actually purchased a GSL-SE parts car a number of years ago with full intentions of doing a 13B S3 swap into my SA .. however life happens and 20 years went by.

The level of performance that Mazda has achieved from the mid 80's 13B to the Renesis 13B is quite impressive .. considering that the engine block is still the same size.

Here's a list of vehicles that our family have owned over the years:

Honda
  • 1976 Honda Civic (this car was so much fun ice racing)
  • 2005 Honda S2000 (current)
  • 2014 Honda CR-V (current)
Acura:
  • 1989 Acura Integra
  • 1998 Acura CL
  • 2000 Acura TL
  • 2006 Acura RDX
  • 2012 Acura TSX (current)
Mazda
  • 1980 Mazda RX-7 GS (current)
  • 2010 Mazda3 - 6-speed manual
  • 2015 Mazda3 - 6-speed manual
  • 2019 Mazda CX-9 (current)
  • 2020 Mazda CX-9 (current)
