Newbie from Sussex, England

Hello,

Just introducing myself.
I'm Gavin Brooks, 24 years old and currently own a Honda Accord CTDI (hopefully only for a few more days)

I have previously owned a few Honda Preludes 2.2 VTECs, an FTO, Toyota Soarer 2.5 GTT, BMW 318 .

I am hoping to be picking up a white RX7 FD on Saturday.

I should then be on this forum quite a bit

I will post pictures of car once I have picked her up!

Spooky, another FD from Worthing! Welcome along, mate.

Where did you pick up the car from, if you don't mind me asking?

There's a few of us about, dude, at least six off the top of my head plus some older school rotaries too. You probably wouldn't have seen mine about too much, it's spent most of the last year blowing up a lot

Got a link of the car you're buying or anything? Might know it

Blowing up? Doesn't fill me with confidence! haha

I have had a look at the potential RX now.. looks in good nick, no smoke, starts first time from cold very quickly, looks very cared for.

I am swapping my car for it, and getting a good deal. Should be picking it up Friday afternoon/evening.

I know I should NEVER go to Mazda for repairs...

But in terms of getting an Oil change and/or having a compression test done... do I need to go to a specialist for this or is there anywhere you can recommend in Worthing or the surrounding area?

Very noob question.. But I have never owned a rotary engined car and dont wanna fall at the first hurdle! Sorry and Thanks!

Ha "mostly"! and really, 6 in Worthing! I've seen one! and I'm a petrolhead always looking out for a nice cars!

I've seen a dark green one parked in the Worthing area with some multi-spoke alloys. Looked nice!

Cheers for the PM.. so your saying EVEN for an oil change.. Super 7s is a good idea.. any idea how much they charge for that?

Well, it is just a car at the end of the day, there's no magic involved. Some voodoo in the actual engine maybe, but things like changing oil and stuff is no harder than any car. If you're a confident home mechanic it should present no great hardship. The coolant sytem can be a bit precious sometimes, it can take a bit of "burping" after a coolant change (but worth checking the level of antifreeze before winter, the irons are as likely to crack with frost before it spits out a core plug).

I recommend Super 7 simply because that's where I take mine, but there are plenty of good specialists not too far away. Like I said, RE:Worx down in Pompey are sound, or Rotechnics near Reading. I'd certainly take any car I'd just bought to one of them for a quick once-over, even if it was just to get a compression check done, which should reveal a good deal about the health of the engine.

Dark green one with chromey multi-spokes is probably Darrel's one. You might want to think about checking out Mazda Rotary Club for details of Rotorstock 8 if you've any interest in the "scene". It's at Santa Pod weekend after this, be a perfect opportunity to meet most of the UK's rotary owners and specialists and learn loads about the car

I am waiting for activation on Mazda Rotary Club.
Weekend after next is the only weekend I am away for a while... damn, that would have been nice Never been to Santa Pod either.

Yeah the chromey wheels sounds about right! Looks good!

In that case I will sort an oil change for Saturday, any particular oil you guys recommend?

I will go and have a overall check of the car done, with a compression test asap at Super 7s, lots of people seem to recommend!

I'll have to look out for other events when I can actually make it!
