Newbie in Modesto, Ca.

Hey everyone. My name is Matt and I am from Modesto. I just acquired an 87 rx7 n/a.

Previously I owned and worked on a 75 280z and worked on and modified that for a few years. I had fun with the car but, as any 35 year old car goes, it was always one problem after another.

So I approached a guy on craigslist about trading my Z for the rx7 and one thing led to another and I drove the rx7 home. The car doesnt have the low end torque that the z does but it sure is a fun little car to drive. very responsive steering and tight shifts.

I dont have any pics yet or any real plans for the car being that I never really considered owning an rx7. I am going to enjoy it as is for now and research what i can before considering upgrades.

Im sure I will be back with any questions I may have. Thanks for having such informative info on here!

One question I have (I haven't searched yet as I am on my phone at work) is if there is a downloadable PDF or similar version of the fsm for these cars? I had one for my Z and I used the crap out of it and am already finding that I wi need one for the fc. Thanks!

i've seen it, and funny that it's my friend that lived in modesto that had it. It exists but I don't know where he got it. I personally love the Haye's manual. That's the bible to my car, you can pick it up for like less than $20.

Hmm I migt have to take you up on that. I am having trouble getting the car to pass smog. It registered as a gross polluter on HC and CO. My o2 sensor wire was broken apparently. So I bought a new one but have yet to retest it. Do you all think that this may fix my problem. It failed at the idle and cruising rpms for HC and CO but passed NX. I researched and it says it may be my air pump or o2 sensor or rung too rich. Now the o2 sensor is new and installed, would this alone maybe fix my issue? Does te o2 sensor control the air pump? I am at wok so I don't have the fsm off hand but I have it at home. Just seeing what you allthink.

Fesofferbex-do you have any decent seats? Mine are s5 seats but really worn down and have a bunch of cigarette burn holes in it.

yeah that is how I got the car. (minus the amp and speakers and radio surround) if i get my hands on an fc steering wheel i will probably swap it back but as of now it works so I will focus on other things that need attention. lol.

I like the wheels as well. Eventually i think i will get the wheels polished or dipped to make them shine again. One is bent slightly as if it hit a curb so that one will need replaced when i get around to it.

No i havent tried that. I was going.through and testing the emission system and found a bunch of shady wiring on the engine harness so i am pretty sure that most.of the emission systems werent working properly or at all. I have most of the wiring fixed now. I just need to find an air bypass solenoid becausr mine is junk. After i get that all squared away i am hoping it will pass. I want ti make sure that everything is workig properly first though. Trips to the smog testing place are starting to add up. Haha if this doesnt fix it i might try seafoam though.

I havent checked out stockton yet. You can check their inventory online though. I know that modesto has (had) an 88 on row 33 a few weeks ago. Im probably going.to.head out there on teusdag to see if i can.yank off the air bypass solenoid

I will keep an eye out for any series 5 parts for you. I am going to try and head out to the modest yard today to.get the final part for my emissions system and hopefully next week have the car back on the road. I'll probably end up picking up a can of seafood as.well. what's the best way to.use that? I heard there's 2 ways, one is through a vacuum line to go through the intake system and another is to mix in with oil. I tried it on my old 03 accord back in 05 just to see what it'd do, but an engine that new you can't see/tell any difference.

Thanks. The z was a fun car but nothing near the 7 has been in the little time ive driven it. Just a heads up for anyone following this thread or my emissions problem thread. If you need an Air bypass solenoid, check ebay. I got one just now for 20 bucks. Also, I came across a scare when trying to find one new. I checked autozone online and all that came up was idle air control valve. Now i was sure this wasnt what I needed but when i looked at the price tag i nearly had a heart attack, it was 900 bucks! haha

anyways, when looking for one its easier to look up AWS (accelerated warm up system) and youll get the right part every time. This may have been a noob mistake but you live and learn. lol
