Newbie to the forum and Rx7's from South Africa

Hi Gents,

My name is Warren and I signed up to this forum today as I am interested in purchasing one soon and would like to gather as much info and knowledge as possible regarding these rotar'd beasts.

I have spoken to a few people with regards to importing a clean unmolested Rx7 to South Africa and will be applying for an import permit soon. I have also found one or two neat ones locally however need to go check them out and they are a bit more expensive than bringing the car in from Japan.

Anyways hope to interact with you guys and learn alot!

Now if you will excuse me I will be busy reading build threads for the next two weeks now

Cheers

Thanks bro I hope so too!

Could import one for around $10 000 but it has over 100 000km and is bone stock from Japan, and with South Africa's exchange rate being as weak as it is the dollar keeps getting stronger so it is getting more expensive to bring a car in at the moment.

There are a few local ones for sale that have been imported and registered and supporting a few mods I just want to gain some more knowledge regarding the car and engine and things to look out for and I will go from there.

What is the price difference there to buy domestic as compared to buying imported? Here in Canada it will cost me about $6000 more to buy domestic. I am looking at one now and am very tempted to pull the trigger!

You see the problem with these import cars is getting them registered here locally. I can get a clean 1995 rx7 from a guy with under 100 000km, few carbon bits, Rays wheels, exhaust decat, and a few other mods for $12500. Would seem like a better deal but gotta come up with the money and go over 1000km to see the car

Ya that 1000km distance to cover would be a big problem... Is RHD standard where you live or on the opposite side like in North America?

RHD standard over here. I often see Rx7's around here more than any other import car.

Welcome bud, I'm also from SA, Joburg.

I would highly recommend looking for one locally first before trying to import one.

I looked for one for nearly 2 years until i found the ONE at the right price.. I also looked at importing one, but its too much of a rigmarole and you cant judge a car by pictures.. And dont take chances with the Swaziland ones

LOL i keep hearing oaks moaning about the fuel economy on these cars.! Thank my bro i will send you a message now.

So guys I have spoken to the owner of this 1995 Rx7 Fds its white it has low mileage, very clean and well looked after. New uprated $1100 clutch comes with the car. Apparently the brakes are upgraded so we will see. Gonna fly down there Friday have a look at the car put it up on ramps etc and have a good look over.

Guys please if anyone could advise on specific points on the rx7 that I need to have a good look at and see if it is working 100% eg: diff ,gearbox etc

Thanks

Is this one in PE? Check for rust as well in places like under the mat in the boot, the boot hatch seams, under the rubber for the windows etc. Look for any respray as well. When the cars on the ramp look for any oil leaks.. but that white on has 69K km,, it should be nice. I know the previous owner if you need more details.
