My name is Travis and this is my story...
I love 90's japanese cars, some 80's, some 00's, but mostly 90's. Since most are slowly turning into rust buckets (NE!), I thought learning how to fix rust and do bodywork would be a valuable skill. So I searched Craigslist and Letgo for a suitable donor car. I found a total rust bucket 86 300zx for $250. Perfect! I can hone my skills, then scrap it for about what I paid for it if need be. So as the guy is sending me pics of the car, there is an 88 rx7 GXL in the background. Naturally I ask him about it. It was included in a deal for something else, broken, and was parked for 15 years. Long story short, I bought that instead, ripped the motor apart (wouldnt turn over), and found a broken water jacket. The front rotor was sitting in antifreeze for who knows how long. So I started cleaning up the housings and irons. It seems like the back rotor is good, not sure on the housings yet, and the irons have pitting. So now I'm not sure what to do. The body has 2 dents, nothing too bad, no rust anywhere, except in the motor. It would need brakes, suspension, not sure about steering or the shape of the trans (5 speed) and diff. Interior is basically shot. The dash and door cards might clean up, but the carpet and seats are destroyed by the sun. But I love it. Looks way better when wet! Clearcoat is gone. Started the teardown... Rusty rotor! Dent Door dent, I took off the moulding.
