Another Noob
Hello all. I just purchased a non running 88 TII for a very good deal and was lucky enough to find this forum.
I actually wasn't even looking for another car but I went to look at it with a friend and thought it was in such good shape and coupled with the fact that you never see them around and I have been wanting to play with a RWD platform again (Sold my 00 Camaro SS in 2004) I ended up buying it.
The car is an 88 that was purchased non running and the previous owner bought an engine off of tigerjapanese.com. The engine that came was an 89 so I guess he had to change a bunch of things to to S4 stuff. Well he could never get it running so it's up to me to figure it out.
Last night I went to my friends shop where I am keeping the car to do some testing on it. Checked all the fluids, and hose routing. Redid the timing. Did the flooding fix, no go. The engine turned over great but didn't even try to start. Did a compression check and the back rotor must have a going apex seal because I get one 100psi bump and two 60 bumps. The front rotor doesn't move the gauge at all! I think the kid said he changed the front iron over to the 88 on and he must have messed up a side seal or something.
So now I'm at the crossroads of rebuilding this motor, getting it rebuilt by someone else, doing a motor swap of some kind or just parting the car out.
I did find some goodies on the car. It has an aftermarket front bumper and side skirts. It must have had a rear bumper also that was removed because I can see the traces of it. Car also has a Full Racing Beat Rev exhaust, a Spec clutch and Spec AL flywheel, a Racing Beat FCD, some silly BOV, and in intake pipe. It rides on a set of genuine MOMO 17" rims, I still need to pull one off to find the width and offset.
We started at 5 and finished up right around 8 last night. Here are some pics.

As for a background I've been a huge Mitsu fan for the past 10 years owning about 10 DSMs and a few other Mitsu products. Here are some shots of some.
