CO New to Wankel power

Hello everyone.
Name is Jason, I just bought a 1994 FD3S yesterday and am excited to get into it.
I don't have any experience with the Wankel so its all pretty new to me!
I am an aircraft mechanic that builds project cars in my spare time, usually domestic and classic stuff. I have always been interested in these cars and loved the style!

I am in Colorado Springs, I work in Arvada and want this car to be streetable but still fun at the local tracks. I will be browsing stickies and threads to learn the right way to build an FD. Thank you all in advance for your help and wisdom.

Welcome, Jason. I think I was looking at that exact car online the other day. Is it drivable? You say you are an aircraft mechanic, have you ever dealt with any wankel auto conversions on experimental aircraft.

Yeah. Has a few scrapes on the left side from the ride over but otherwise in terrific condition. Badly in need of a tune up as it had been sitting for two years. Took it out for the first time last night! such a fun little car! The Trans Am will definitely be getting sold!!

I have not dealt with any Wankel powered aircraft, I know it has been done but I think the hard part to overcome is the massive gear reduction needed to get the prop slow enough. And (I'm still new to these motors so someone correct me if I'm wrong) the wankel engine has reliability problems and high oil consumption when operated continuously at high rpm.

If you do convert one I would love to see it! I would recommend the 12A as it is very simple and adaptable.

Thanks. still undecided if it will stay red though.

Trying to research exactly what I have. I am unsure of the different option packages this car came with. The seller told me it was an R2. I'm not sure what is included other than dual oil coolers. I searched for info on this here and elsewhere but couldn't find what exactly was offered. I would like to find info to decode my VIN to know the specifics.

Slowly finding the problems with the car:
Speedo stopped working and (brake) light is illuminated on the dash when the car is moving not sure if they are related.
Idle speed wanders when in neutral with the clutch engaged but drops down and stays constant as soon as the clutch pedal is pushed
Badly in need of tune up / oil change / new plugs. (sat for 2 years before I bought it)

Hopefully I can find solutions for all these in the 3rd gen threads, any advice is appreciated.

Also I find it odd that there is a button to raise the headlamps without turning them on. this seems odd? Why would I ever want them up with the lights off?

Hmm I might look into what sub model mine is too.

Off the top of my head I know it's one that came with the spot lights. Even tho they've been removed the switch is still in the car.

Mine can do that also I think it's just for looks to be honest lol
