New to posting on forum
I've been using this forum for technical advice for a while now. However I've never posted anything. I've always been able to find the info w/o having to ask. This site is awesome! You guys have done a great job. I've loved 1st gen's for 20 years now. Only for a couple have I attempted working on them. And my attempts have been futile for the most part.
Right now I have two fb's. An '84 and an '85. The '85 is a gs w/ a moon roof and power windows. When I bought it a couple years ago, it ran roughly, and overheated quickly and blew a lot of white smoke. Through the research I did on this site, I came to the conclusion that the o-rings were bad and the coolant was getting into the combusion chambers. I pulled the engine (12A) with the intention of rebuilding it. But when I couldn't get the flywheel off, I got discouraged.
A couple weeks later a neighbor of mine stopped by and asked about it. He said he had an '84 w/ a good engine and I could have it if I wanted it. So, I pulled the engine out of it and put it in the '85. Now all I have to do is put everything else back in, drain the gas tank, and see if I can get any of the compression back & finally get it running. I'm skeptical that it will run cause when I turn it over by hand w/ the plugs removed there is no compression. I will try the old ATF treatment, but if that don't work, I'll have two parts cars.
