New member wondering about buying 82 RX7
Hello, I've recently found a 1982 RX7 on Marketplace for a price I'm willing to pay. I'm new to cars in general and was wondering if this would be a nice daily regardless of the maintenance or work I would have to put in to get it running. I've looked at it and the guy selling it says its been sitting for two years but had it running before he parked after driving. He says it probably needs the carb cleaned as well as other maintenance. Its got a slightly cracked dash, 71,000 miles, busted choke **** and most likely other issues I don't know of. I was wondering if any experts thought I should settle, and if so what should I look at or do in specific to help get it running. I would love to have this car if I could get it in good condition.
Thanks,
Reed.

I would steer you away from anything this old as a daily driver. These cars CAN be reliable, but if they've sat for that long then there will be a lot of things that pop up.
If you had a reliable daily driver, and this was a 2nd fun car, then I would say you can't go wrong.

Welcome to the forum. This sounds like a car that has a lot of potential. You need to check the front and rear wheel wells as well ad the rear control arm mounts for rust. Those can be costly to repair if you aren't doing the work yourself. Or this can be an indication of more rust thats hidden away. There are a lot of things that need to be looked over and inspected so that you know exactly what you are buying and potentially getting yourself into.
Either way, the car can be a reliable daily driver outside of the winter months. These cars are not great in the snow and if youre new to cars and to driving in general, you could get hurt if you plan on driving in the winter. Secondly, parts can be tough to find and if the car has been sitting and given its 43 years old, its bound to need things currently and will continue to need things as you begin driving it. You will also want to work on the car yourself and that means having a good assortment of tools. Not just a case of sockets and a couple ratchets you can get from craftsman. There will be a lot more you will need. You will also want a factory service manual so that you can diagnose potential issues and have the guidance of the manual in repairing the car. If you send the car to a shop to be repaired, be prepared to pay quite a bit of money. To sum this up, they make great secondary cars. Have a reliable daily driver on hand. I drive my 7's often but would not drive them daily and rely on any of them as my sole means of transportation unless it were an emergency.
I'm not trying to discourage you from getting the car. I honestly hope you get it and that its a wonderful car. Its that you need to be educated on the car and prepared before you dive in and feel like the whole thing is over your head or out of your budget.
