Hello, I'm Gabriel and an owner of a 1985 RX-7 GS with the 12A engine and manual trans.
I've owned the car since new and did most of the upkeep and repairs. Recently I had difficulty passing CA emissions and found the cats needed replacement along with the shutter/coasting valve, which was sucking air at idle. Using the tutorial on shutter valve replacement found at mazdatrix.com helped considerably and removing the rats nest made the carb bolts more accessible. Very important to make sure to take plenty of pictures and make notes on how the vacuum tubes are arranged to save considerable grief in reassembly. This procedure involved lifting the carb and supporting it with a short 2x4 on the intake manifold. A problem arose after putting it all back together, I now cannot adjust the throttle sensor so both volt meters synchronize when letting go of the throttle from 3000 rpm to 1000 to 1200 rpm range. The shutter valve now operates properly but am perplexed why the sensor cannot be adjusted to get simultaneous readings (it was fine and was able to adjust prior to doing all this work). I replaced the throttle sensor with another but no dice, same problem. All vacuum lines have been replaced, cleaned as best I could around the carb, disassembled and cleaned electrical connections, triple checked vacuum routing diagram and did a tune up involving mixture and throttle adjustment. Any help on this would be appreciated.
