New member - Re-Speed FB

Howdy,

New-ish member here, first time rotary owner. I moved to Canada from Oz a few years ago and because of the local market can finally afford and find a decent first gen.
So i picked up this 82, i was drawn to it as the motor was strong and already had all the forum mods (rats nest, omp delete etc) as well as a full re-speed front and rear end conversion inc. subframe with short ratio mustang rack, coilovers, everythings adjustable etc. Has a front mount oil cooler and the nikki has been modded as well. The car was previously built for autocross.
Since owning it i've had a custom 2.25 exhaust made from the Pacesetter header back, holley fuel pump and FPR which seems to have mostly cured my hot-start woes.
This along with general service items/upgrades, most of which I was informed by my sifting through the endless forums in this club.

On the weekend I got it out to my first track day at Mosport DDT in Ontario, I put close to 100 track kms on it and it went like a champ. With the Toyo R888's it was super solid and predictable, very, very happy.

It wasn't without its issues though. As I was crawling up the pitlane for my first session, the midday sun baking on us, my handbrake light came on, my tacho and dash started dancing all over the place and i think i could hear an intermittent scraping / metallic slap followed by smoke pissing out of the bonnet and under the car. I pulled up, shut off and took a peep to see smoke coming from I think the starter as well as a sus smell, possibly electrical. I let things cool off then went to start the bastard again but it wouldn't even click, nothing. I removed all the wiring from the starter and spent the rest of the day getting tow starts into every session followed by a 90 minute drive home, car went great but that smell never completely went away.

Before I start fiddling around I was wondering if any gurus know exactly what the cause could be? Maybe its wiring, or the solenoid? A bad earth? Starter stuck engaged?

Should i move this to Tech Support?
