CT New Member - CT 1994 RX-7 Touring

Hello, new member here. I have a 94 Touring automatic (believe it or not). It's been sitting in a garage for about 10 years, only started a few times. I've decided it's time to restore this beauty and get it back on the road. 108k miles but only 10k on a dealer installed new motor and turbos. I'll be looking through other threads for parts that I need, but wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone else even had an automatic. Heard there may have been only 500 made, not sure if that's true or not, or if it was just the base model with auto that they only made 500. I should add that I've owned 78, 79, 83 & 86, so I've had all 3 gens. Anyway, hello from CT, USA.

Welcome to the club. One of my best buds has a 93 Touring, which began life as an automatic before we did the conversion to manual. No clue on production numbers though, but I'm sure it's been covered in the 3rd gen section at some point. One of the items that should be examined carefully are the vacuum lines that control the turbos. I know it's kind of intimidating at first, but rubber vacuum lines from who knows when are generally an item that can create havoc when trying to pin down any vacuum or turbo-related issue that may come up. Sometimes they act up when warmed up, and behave properly when cold, or vise versa due to cracks opening opening up from heat. If you can avoid removing the Upper Intake Manifold by using a dental mirror or android/iphone inspection camera, do it. "Work smarter, not harder" makes anything on a FD considerably easier.

The 3rd Gen section's Sticky Threads are a great starting point for getting your feet wet. Vacuum diagrams are in a nice, tidy colorized form for stock, Simplified Sequential and non-sequential for North American cars. I've added the Japanese diagrams on the last page of the Vacuum Diagram sticky thread so everything is covered.

I prefer manual, but since auto is so rare, I feel like it's worth more original.

Forgot to mention the factory 17" chrome wheels. Haven't seen those on any other RX-7 that I can remember.

Welcome to the forum!! You don't see many white FD's, let alone with the automatic trans! Any plans on 5spd swapping it or are you content with the automatic?

I think it's only going to be a restore and drive for a little while, then sell it, so I want to keep it as close to original as possible. I don't think I've ever seen another FD with factory chrome rims either, which I really like. Thanks for the welcome.

I've never seen those wheels on an FD either. I'm not that well versed with the FD so I'm not sure if they are original or not. Still a great car no matter how you look at it!

They definitely were an option that year, maybe a dealer option, idk, but they had center covers that said Mazda, they were just not in very good shape, so I left them off.

That's really cool to know that they are original. I've never seen them before and am happy to learn something new about the FD!
