Hi, I am new to the site. I have a 1985 GS which I have owned for 11 years. It has 141,000 miles. I fell in love with the first generation Rx-7 the first time I saw one in an ad in Penthouse magazine in 1980. I removed the ad, and I still have it to this day. As a kid in high school the Rx-7 was my dream car, and although it took me 30 years, I finally made that dream come true, and I have enjoyed the experience of owning such a special piece of automotive history. I have had a decent amount of experience working with cars, but I will confess that unlike many of you I have very little experience with rotary engines. Fortunately mine hasn't required more than routine maintenance. I joined the site with the hope of broadening my knowledge of these wonderful cars.
Welcome to the forum!! Your 85 looks to be in great shape!! I still have that same ad. It hung on my bedroom wall when I was a kid and I also dreamed of owning an RX-7 while I stared at it. I still have the very same ad that hung in my wall as well!
Oh my goodness, I never expected to meet someone else who had the ad! That is super cool. I hope your ad is in better shape than mine. As I mentioned, mine came from a copy of Penthouse. Leave it to a gearhead to take a magazine full of naked beautiful women, and keep a picture of a car.
The ad is still in decent shape. I'll dig it out and post a pic. I think mine came from a National Geographic magazine. It may not have. I'll see how large it is when I remove it from the box.
