IL New Guy In the Chicago area

Hi All,

I don't own a FD yet, but i'm 99% sure it's going to be my next purchase. Right now I own a 92 Dodge Stealth RT/TT that has 515awhp/515awtq and I'm looking for a change of pace.

I like the idea of the v8 swap (yeah I know that's blasphemy for most of you), so i'll be looking for a rolling chasis to start my build.

Hey man, where in Chicago are you located? I'm hoping to be purchasing an FD myself in the next few weeks if things work out. I'm up in the North Suburbs.

I'm looking at keeping mine as stock as I can. I have a miata for track floggings, but both LS1s and 1JZes sound like awesome swaps in these cars. The LSx is a very popular swap into MX5s and they make for great track cars.

Not many JZ swaps for the miata. But, there are several LSX and 5.0 kits on the market. There is even a spec V8R miata class now.

The FD is a gorgeous car and a JZ gives it tremendous power. Although, the Vette's motor has all that torque and is lighter. It's a tough call in my opinion. I would probably go LSX for weight and simplicity.

I'm in Maywood In the near west burbs. A buddy of mine with a Scooby was just telling me about all the miata's he was seeing with lsx swaps at the track in Wiscon this past weekend.

I'm getting excited about getting this thing going! Now I need to try and fine a rolling chassis.

that was my thinking as well. The TQ of the V8 is hard to beat.

I REALLY REALLY like the idea of a powerful N/A car. I've done the turbo thing for close to 10 years now and while they are awesome the maintenance of modified turbo cars is more than i'm really interested in.

I've have 2 an fittings on the oil cooler of my stealth just flat out break (i have no clue how that even happens)

The thought of being all motor and having an almost 50/50 weight distribution in a light car makes me smile on the inside

One other thing I like about the vette motor is that parts will be much easier to find and order vs the foreign stuff.

After buying my 2010 silverado 2500HD I've really grown to love the convenience of being able to buy parts just about anywhere.

thanks man. I think the wife is going to make me sell the stealth before I can get a FD :-( Maybe i can find someone willing to trade.

I'm very surprised at the value that the rollers carry though..lol. I'm not used to seeing that coming from the 3/S world

what gen did you go with?

I started out wanted a 3rd gen, but I saw some pics of a 2nd gen turbo ii that really struck my fancy. Not to mention they're noticeably cheaper
